Naim debuts Solstice turntable in special edition package

After almost 50 years, Naim Audio has launched its first ever turntable, the Solstice, which comes as part of a Special Edition package subject to a limited run of just 500.

Fans of vinyl and the celebrated Naim audio experience can finally enjoy the coming together of these two distinguished Hi-Fi pantheons as the British audio firm launches its debutante turntable as part of the Naim Solstice Special Edition. The hardware collection also includes a next-generation version of the iconic Naim Aro tonearm, an Equinox Moving Coil cartridge, a Solstice Series Phono Stage, a Solstice Series Power Supply and a bespoke accessories set.

Offering high quality sound in a contemporary design that still echoes the classic Naim look and feel, the Solstice Special Edition gets straight to the music by sidestepping the complications associated with some premium turntables and instead delivers high end performance with a simple set up.

Naim Solstice Special Edition Turntable

The Solstice turntable sports a model code of NVS TT and features a magnetic bearing supporting a high-mass, highly polished aluminium platter with a unique, self-calibrating motor drive.

The company has incorporated design principles which see multiple levels of mechanical decoupling and a turntable plinth crafted from 47 separate wood layers skinned with metal to create an extremely low resonance structure.

Moreover, the plinth features an island between the platter bearing and arm to keep these components critically aligned one to the other, while an isolating three-arm decoupling system blocks airborne or residual motor vibrations.

Naim Aro Tonearm

The original Aro’s design and performance are enhanced by the inclusion of improved materials such as tungsten and carbon-fibre along with the addition of new bias, arm height and azimuth adjustments. There’s further refinement with two-point, slotted fixings for alternative cartridges alongside the familiar three-point fixing and, overall, the design enables the cartridge to extract what Naim describes as ‘enormous amounts of information’ from your records. Plus, a lift-lower device has finally been added.

Naim Equinox Cartridge

As the collector of the information held on your vinyl, the cartridge is a critical element to get right. Here, Naim has created a Moving Coil inner assembly that sits in a solid aluminium housing machined from a single billet. The stylus, cantilever and motor components are secured to the cartridge body which itself is attached to the headshell with a three-point fixing. This assembly maximises stability and energy transfer.

The Equinox has a microline stylus shape for accurate high-frequency information retrieval and the stiff but light design ensures the stylus movements are accurately transferred to the moving coils.

Naim Solstice Series Phono Stage

Otherwise known as the NVC TT model, the Solstice Series phono stage is a sophisticated, ultra-low-noise Class A design with dedicated MC and MM head-amplifiers and is the first Naim phono stage to feature Discrete Regulator (DR) technology, first used on the flagship Statement amplifier. This provides a smooth, stable power supply that is crucial for top notch performance.

For greater flexibility, fly-by-wire input switching, loading and gain are included and the controls can be switched on the go for a total of 256 possible tuning combinations for moving-coil (MC) cartridges.

Naim Solstice Series Power Supply

The NPX TT Solstice Series Power Supply is a  bespoke design that powers both the turntable and the phono stage using two different power supplies which are completely isolated to remove the risk of interference.

Also present is the same Naim DR technology used in the Solstice Series Phono Stage to ensure the cleanest possible power.

Furthermore, NPX TT is a a smart power supply, which detects when the turntable has stopped and goes into a 0.5W power sleep-mode for standby. Once in use again, standby is automatically disengaged and an oversized toroidal transformer takes over power duties.

Naim Audio Research & Development Director, Paul Neville enthused, “Solstice Special Edition offers an exceptional all-round experience. If you love the organic authenticity of vinyl, now you can enjoy it with the musical purity and passion only a Naim system can deliver.”

The Solstice Series Phono Stage and Power Supply are hand-crafted by Naim in Salisbury, UK, while the turntable, Aro arm and Equinox cartridge are precision manufactured to Naim’s design by German specialist, Clearaudio.

The package also includes a curated collection of high quality True Stereo recordings, newly remastered for vinyl, alongside a commemorative book.

The Naim Audio Solstice Special Edition is available from late July and can be pre-ordered now from select retailers worldwide, with a suggested selling price of £16,000 / €17,000 / $20,000.
