Mola Mola debuts Kula integrated amplifier

Mola Mola’s very first integrated amplifier is the Kula which brings transparency, control and convenience to the high-end music systems market.

Despite being based in the Netherlands, audio electronic specialist Mola Mola does love exotic naming conventions - even the company nomenclature is synonymous with tropical fish - and that continues with the company’s inaugural integrated amp.

The Kula is named after the Hawaiian word for school and the modular amp is an education in high end performance and versatility.

Bringing design and aesthetic elements from the Makua preamp, the Kula also features a exclusive Mola Mola developed power supply and power-amplifier capable of delivering 2 x 150W/8Ω, 2 x 300W/4Ω - enough to drive any speaker with ease, the company reckons.

Taking further cues from the Makua premap, the Kula offers a line stage with 3 pairs of balanced and 3 pairs of single-ended inputs selectable by switch and software. There’s the opportunity to include Mola Mola’s MC/MM phono stage and modular DAC section and all inputs are routable through the optional processor boards via software control which also determines the processing options.

The optional phono stage supplies independent adjustable settings covering practically all known cutting curves, while the 32-bit DAC stage (used by the Tambaqui stand-alone unit) features 5 digital inputs including USB, optical, AES, Roon-ready endpoint and Bluetooth.

Two pairs of Furutech binding posts are directly connected to the amplifier PCB using Kubala·Sosna cable and the Kula can be used with either the optional premium remote control or Mola Mola remote app. Once the DAC is installed, the amp adopts Roon Ready status.

Andy Baker of UK distributor Sound Design Distribution said, “We believe that great hi-fi should aim to be the perfect balance of performance and usability. This precise combination of class-leading properties ensures that the Kula will astound you. It is the integrated amplifier that truly belies its size!”

The Mola Mola Kula integrated amplifier will be available in January 2021 with a typical UK retail price (inc VAT) of £9,999.00

The optional DAC costs £5,999.00 and the phone stage £1,799.00.
