Mola-Mola brings Tambaqui DAC to UK
Audio specialist Mola-Mola has taken the DAC from its audiophile Makua preamplifier unit and made it available in the UK as a separate module dubbed Tambaqui.
Responding to popular demand, the company states that the Tambaqui DAC is the ideal component upgrade for music fans wanting the best quality from their digital sources.

The DAC’s converter is made up of a twin board stack to facilitate the two stage process.

The incoming digital signal is first upsampled to 3.125MHz/32 bits and then converted to a noise shaped PWM signal. This is then directed to the second board which houses dual mono DACs which both utilise discrete 32-stage Finite-Impulse-Response (FIR) output stages combined with 4th order filtering I/V converters to convert the PWM into an analogue signal with a 130dB signal to noise ratio. Additionally, the company claims that, even for full scale signals, the distortion remains below the noise floor.

As well as the Tambaqui’s system upgrade potential, a range of other features including a lossless digital volume control, Roon Ready functionality and headphone output enable the DAC to act as the central control hub for a minimalist digital audio setup.

A battery of inputs includes Optical (Toslink), S/PDIF, AES/EBU (XLR), USB type B, Ethernet (Roon Ready), Bluetooth (A2DP, APTX), I²S over HDMI (I²S is used to communicate PCM audio data between integrated circuits).

On the output side, the Tambaqui features balanced XLR, balanced headphone (4-pin XLR), a 6.3mm headphone jack and two programmable 3.5mm jack trigger outputs.

Additionally, there is support for PCM up to 384kHz/32 bits (>192kHz and >24 bits via USB and Roon only); DoP and Native DSD up to quad speed (USB and Roon only).

    ·Full-Scale Output Level (XLR): 18dBu
    ·Full-Scale Output Level (headphone): 18dBu
    ·Signal to Noise Ratio: 130dB
·THD, IMD: not measurable (estimated -140dB)
·Bandwidth: up to 80kHz (apodizing response)
    ·Integrated jitter: <1ps from 10Hz upwards, <300fs from 1kHz upwards
·Jitter rejection: >80dB at 1Hz after 20 seconds of lock

    ·4 programmable presets
    ·Remote control (premium)
    ·Mola-Mola remote app

    200mm (W) x 110mm (H) x 320mm (D); 5.2kg

The Tambaqui DAC will be available in the UK from August at a RRP of £8,999
