M&K’s new X+ subwoofer range consists of three THX Certified models, the X15+, X12+ and X10+.

The three new subwoofers build on the previous X Series and feature M&K Sound’s signature Push-Pull driver configuration.

M&K Sound’s first ever 15-inch subwoofer to gain THX Dominus Certified, the X15+, heads up the new lineup and all three now feature brand-new Danish designed and built ICE Class D power amplifiers. This provides a hike in power for the X12+ and X10+ over and above their older counterparts such that they now have 600W RMS / 1200W Peak and 500W RMS / 1000W Peak available respectively. The newly introduced X15+ pushes this power to 700W RMS / 1400W Peak.

The X12+ and X10+ are now equipped with updated and redesigned woofers with 30-percent larger voice coils and magnets and all models feature new carbon fibre woofer cones with ultra-high strength and rigidity. These all combine to facilitate the additional power on offer while increased linear excursion ensures the handling of this extra power without sacrificing sensitivity or succumbing to distortion.

Further control and and distortion free performance are aided by M&K Sound’s proprietary CNC machined extruded aluminium Distortion Killer Shorting Rings, and quoted low end frequency responses are 16Hz for the X15+,18Hz for the X12+ and 20Hz for the X10+. The company suggests that even if you can’t hear it, you’ll certainly be able to feel it.

M&K Sound’s Push-Pull subwoofer architecture and ‘reversed double driver’ non-isobaric configuration mean that both drivers in the 25mm MDF cabinets are ‘exposed’ to room air and the overall arrangement of having one inverted driver in relation to the other to cancel non-linearities produces totally symmetric waveforms, which further reduces distortion.

Additionally, cabinet bracing reduces panel vibrations and increased venting at the base of the woofers mitigates distortion due to air turbulence. The milled venting cavities also make for convenient carrying handles too.

Cosmetic makeovers include cleaner lines and more discreet curved edges to complement living spaces or dedicated home cinema rooms and there are flush-mounted front baffles and conveniently invisible magnetic grille attachment mechanisms.

Each model has a separate THX Certification status with the dual 10-inch driver X10+ classed as THX Certified Select, the dual 12-inch driver X12+ achieving THX Certified Ultra status and the dual 15-inch driver X15+ being granted THX Certification Dominus class. This seal of excellence means owners can be assured they are experiencing the movie soundtrack ‘as the director intended’

Steven Martz, vice president of global technology, THX Ltd, commented, “We are pleased to announce THX Certification in three THX performance classes for the audio innovator, M&K Sound.

“M&K audio engineers are among the world’s best, and passing THX rigorous standards for audio certification, means passing hundreds of tests. M&K can be proud of this accomplishment, and audio enthusiasts everywhere will be pleased with the extraordinary pure, powerful output of these superb subwoofers.”

The X+ Series will be available in January 2022 from authorised M&K Sound dealers with US prices quoted as $4,499 for the X10+, $4,999 for the X12+ and $5,999 for the X15+.
