Minix launch new NEO Z83-4 Windows 10 Mini PC

Company marks first IFA with product launch

by Mark Hodgkinson Sep 2, 2016

  • MINIX has announced a new Intel Cherry Trail based Fanless Mini PC with the MINIX NEO Z83-4.
The Neo Z83-4 is the direct successor to the NEO Z64-W and a down-specced alternative to the NGC-1 and will be priced at around £145 in the UK. The Z83 will come running 64-bit Windows 10 OS and should act well as Thin Client solution or as a low powered and silent HTPC, which is what we’ll be more interested in testing.

The passive cooling design of NEO Z83-4 is aimed to realise the perfect balance of speed, temperature, performance and absolute silence and its 4GB of DDR3L memory 32GB of Samsung eMMC (storage) should mean it’s a snappy operator.

There’s promising network connections, too, with both 802.11ac Dual-Band Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet on board, while there are Mini DP and HDMI video outputs with the chipset able to output Ultra HD at up to 30 frames per second and decode HEVC. Unfortunately, the Cherry Trail has no support for HDR video but our previous experiences with similarly equipped mini PCs tell us that 3D should play just fine.

The NEO Z83-4 commences pre-sale in mid-September and we should have a review sample in shortly for testing.
