Melco launches home demo scheme

A new way of AV shopping?

by Andy Bassett

Melco has announced a home demo initiative so that customers can continue to shop for its products during the UK coronavirus lockdown.

In what could be a continuation of a wider series of home demo schemes within the AV industry, Japanese digital audio brand, Melco, has launched a new offer to help new and existing customers who are looking for ways of getting the most from their music collections in order to improve their Hi-Fi experience whilst under lockdown.

In light of the worldwide cancellation of shows, exhibitions and events and the nationwide restrictions on non essential movement, Melco’s UK distributor, Audiophile Digital Music Masters (ADMM) now finds itself with a surfeit of demo stock. It plans to work closely with retailers to be able to offer this stock for evaluation in customers’ own homes.

This gives customers the confidence that the equipment they audition will work well in their home conditions and with their existing equipment.

Using its currently available time and resources, ADMM can arrange the distribution and collection of this pool of demo units which includes the newly launched Melco EX Series of advanced music libraries and the S100 data switch.

Melco suggests that anyone interested in auditioning one of its digital music libraries should contact their nearest Melco retailer using the online tool. Sample models will be available on a first come first served basis but all requests for home demo will be catered for where possible. If the retailers are not available for any reason, Melco invites direct contact.

The company’s dealer network will also be able to advise on part-exchange opportunities and, for existing Melco users, updating libraries to the new EX specification.

Melco’s scheme follows a move by Cyrus Audio who unveiled a similar scheme earlier in the week.

Under the current circumstances, is the home audition of audio equipment something you would be interested in? If this isn’t the right time, is this something you’d like to see continue when things get back to normal? Let us know your thoughts in the discussion thread.
