McIntosh’s wireless home audio speaker system features Apple's AirPlay 2, Bluetooth 5.0 and Amazon's Works With Alexa wireless technologies, coupled with 650 watts into eight speakers.
US company, McIntosh has announced its entry into the popular and increasingly busy streaming market with the release of an all-in-one wireless speaker system, designed and built for the streaming age - the RS200 Wireless System.

McIntosh has drawn upon 70 years of home entertainment experience and audio engineering to incorporate wide-ranging technologies such as Apple AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth 5.0 in the RS200, which also sports Amazon Works With Alexa certification. This allows a third party Alexa control device to operate the unit from any room.

An obvious and key component of any streaming system is the breadth of the streaming services and formats it supports. Here, the RS200 delivers by supporting AAC, Qualcomm’s aptX HD for Hi-Res playback plus Qualcomm’s aptX Low Latency to minimise audio/video sync issues. There’s also DNLA support and Play-Fi from DTS, which has built-in interfaces for Amazon Prime Music, Pandora, Qobuz, SiriusXM, Spotify, TIDAL and others.

Up to four favourite Play-Fi streaming services can be stored via the configurable pre-set buttons on the top of the RS200, this enables saved streaming services to be played directly from the cloud without needing a mobile device. Users can also connect other wired devices to the RS200 and stream to other Play-Fi devices on the same network via Play-Fi Line In Broadcasting. Plus, Play-Fi’s Critical Listening mode allows high-resolution audio files to be sent to the unit with no transcoding or down-sampling.

Boasting a hefty 650W, the RS200 splits this power between 8 speakers, which includes two bass drivers, four midrange units and two tweeters. An optional subwoofer can also be added via an RCA phono sub out.

Placement of the unit is made easy by a three-position EQ switch which allows the EQ to be set based on the specific room and the user’s listening preferences.

The RS200 can be used as part of your home cinema set up too by utilising an audio-only HDMI input for TVs with ARC (Audio Return Channel) capabilities, or an optical input to connect TVs without ARC. For a more immersive home theatre audio, McIntosh’s Play-Fi-compatible RS100 Wireless Speakers (sold separately) can be added to the RS200 as surround channels.

Classic design elements such as a black glass front panel, illuminated logo, control knobs and a pair of fast-responding blue Watt meters ensure that you know you’re definitely in the company of a McIntosh device.

The RS200 will cost £3,495 and is available to order now for delivery in March/April (UK); February (US)
