Linn unveils Series 3 wireless speaker

Wireless speaker goes out on a Linn.

Choosing Harrods as the launch venue for its first ever wireless speaker seems appropriate given the exclusive nature that the Glasgow based speaker manufacturer and the London luxury emporium share.

Accordingly, the speaker is accompanied by a premium price of £2950 and exclusive gold meshed Harrods only model.

Sporting a smoothed decanter design in a ceramic finish and hand built in Linn’s Scottish factory, the company claim it’s “the world’s best sounding wireless speaker.”

The all-in-one speaker is a departure in some ways for Linn given its emphasis on Plug and Play simplicity that negates any specialist installation but it still features the company’s bespoke Exakt technology first developed for its flagship Klimax System. Exakt ensures that the timing of the higher frequencies is held back just long enough so that they arrive at the listeners’ ears at exactly the same time as the lower frequencies, thus reducing phase errors.

The speaker itself has 6 control buttons located on the glass top surface of the device but it can also be controlled via a smart device too using voice commands for digital assistants such as Alexa or Siri.

Linn’s own streaming platform allows access to 24-bit / 192kHz Hi-Res audio files on a home server system as well as integrated services such as TIDAL and Qobuz, and there's support for Spotify and Roon - all via the Linn control app. Wireless support for Bluetooth, AirPlay and Wi-Fi means streaming from compatible devices such as iPhones, iPads and Android smartphones is straightforward and multi-room audio around the home is also possible.

Using the Series 3 as a stereo pair involves connecting the ‘Master’ speaker (the 301) to the ‘Slave speaker (the 302) using an Ethernet cable. Other physical connections include an ARC enabled HDMI port for connection to a TV.

Gilad Tiefenbrun, Linn’s managing director said, ‘Series 3 is the culmination of nearly 50 years of audio innovation and Scottish precision engineering, driven by our unwavering passion for music.” He added, “Offering high performance audio quality combined with the convenience of wireless, Series 3 will change expectations of what wireless speakers are capable of. Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, your own music collection… wherever your music comes from, Series 3 will make you fall in love with it all over again.”

The Linn Series 3 is priced at £2,950 for one and £5,450 for the two-speaker stereo system.
The ''Harrods Exclusive' gold grille model is currently available from the store along with the standard chrome grille version.
The 301 and 302 Series 3 models will be more widely available through Linn specialist retailers from 2020.

Are you a Linn fan? Does a trip to Harrods to listen to the Series 3 in the demo room sound tempting? Let everyone know in the thread if you make the trip.
