LG GX soundbar launches in UK

Looks the part, sounds the part

by Andy Bassett

LG has announced the availability of the GX soundbar, its newest soundbar for 2020, designed to fully complement the company’s GX Gallery OLED TVs.

Supporting the designer’s ‘adding spatial value’ philosophy, the GX soundbar has been created to provide both an aural and visual accompaniment to LG’s premium wall mounted Gallery series OLEDS and brings advanced audio and features, plus a flush-to-the-wall aesthetic.

Measuring a super slim 150 x 1446 x 32.5mm (HxWxD), the GX soundbar’s dimensions and finish make it an ideal match for the 65-inch version of the GX OLED TV, though it can of course be used with other screen sizes too. For extra flexibility, the soundbar can be supported using an included sturdy steel stand as well as being mounted on the wall directly under the TV.

As well as the pleasing look, the 3.1 channel GX soundbar packs in plenty of impressive features to provide an immersive audio experience starting with Dolby Atmos and DTS: X support for object-based, three dimensional sound.

The speaker is Dolby Vision compatible via 4K pass through so the best possible image and sound can be maintained and for truly cinematic home viewing, low frequency bass is pumped out via the included wireless subwoofer. For the full surround effect, the GX soundbar is compatible with LG’s additional wireless rear speaker kit, the SPK8, which is sold separately.

There are plenty of connectivity options including Bluetooth to enable streaming from smart phones and tablets as well as eARC compatibility, which facilitates transmission of lossless audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio.

In addition, Hi-Res audio certification means the GX can offer lossless playback at up to 24bit / 96kHz in order to bring out the extra details present in high-resolution audio files or when up-converting conventional audio formats.

And to ensure the optimal listening experience, the built-in LG AI Sound Pro feature can automatically determine the type of content being played and apply the best sound settings.

The LG GX sound bar is available in the UK now at a price of £999, and from 15th July - 18th August, LG is also offering customers who purchase the new LG GX Soundbar a 50 percent discount when purchased with an LG OLED GX TV (55”, 65”, 77”).

The GX soundbar will also be available in Europe, North America, Asia and other key territories from this month.
