As if the sight of a geriatric Arnold Schwarzenegger as an ageing terminator wasn't bad enough, the latest trailer for Terminator: Genisys appears to confirm a conspiracy theory that's been going around.
The theory states that this latest reboot/remake/prequel/sequel (delete as applicable) is deliberately awful in order to finally sink the franchise so the rights can revert back to James Cameron. Well based upon the latest trailer, that theory might actually be true. It's the only explanation for this utter mess of a film. Things got off to a bad start with the terrible, misspelt title, as if we don't have enough problems with people being unable to spell these days. Then the news that Schwarzenegger would play an ageing terminator began to ring serious alarm bells, especially as all of his comeback films to date have been fairly rubbish.
Then the first teaser trailer hit and things got worse, with a convoluted plot where the original timeline had been changed. The sight of an ageing Terminator shooting the younger 1984 version looked amusing and the Aussie pair of Jai Courtney and Jason Clarke as Kyle Reese and John Connor didn't look too bad. However there's no denying that Emilia Clarke looks too young to play Sarah Connor and will no doubt be running back to the set of Game of Thrones with her tail between her legs. The sight of a liquid metal T-1000, some awful one liners and a school bus flipping through the air just added to the concerns.
Now we get the latest trailer and we're confronted by our heroes being chased by a robot version of John Connor. Wait... what? Yes this film has just jumped the shark, presumably in that cartwheeling school bus. It's hard to really put into words how bad this film looks but no wonder Matt Smith is in the cast, they're going to need to borrow his TARDIS to fix all the plot holes. Still if it's any consolation to the filmmakers, Terminator: Genisys has just gone to the top of our must see list of films for the summer because not even a T-1000 could stop us from watching this train wreck of a movie.
Terminator: Genisys opens in the UK on the 3rd of July 2015.
