Kef Reference Series gets new finish and additional model

Kef’s Reference Series speakers will soon come in a brand new Silver Satin Walnut finish and there’s a new, smaller in-wall Reference speaker too, the Ci3160REF-THX.

Kef has announced some cosmetic tweaks to its Reference series of speakers. There’s the introduction of a new overall Silver Satin Walnut finish plus bespoke Foundry finishes to the Reference 4c and 2c centre speakers in the form of Blue Ice White and Copper Black Aluminium.

A new, smaller Reference THX® Certified Ultra In-Wall Custom Installation model, the Ci3160REF-THX - designed to add flexibility to installation options - has been added to the range too.

As befitting a speaker series that was created in 1973 and which has seen decades worth of design and technological advances courtesy of KEF’s Total System Design philosophy, the new finishes are more than just a paint job. The Silver Satin Walnut finish uses a ‘tone-on-tone’ design which sees the drive units encompassed within a solid, brushed aluminium front baffle. There’s also pair-matched Walnut, and real wood veneered cabinets that complement the speaker’s overall design.

While the Silver Satin Walnut finish is available for all the speakers, the Reference 2c and 4c centre channel speakers are now also available in Blue Ice White and Copper Black Aluminium - the Foundry finishes - which hint at the company’s roots in its choice of colours. These additional finishes are designed to aid wider AV system configurations.
The new Ci3160REF-THX In-Wall speaker answers a need for high-end integrated AV speaker system solutions and sits alongside its larger sibling the Ci5160REF-THX (pictured). The smaller Ci3160REF-THX makes use of the same Reference driver topology as the box designs and utilises two 6.5-inch bass drivers and a 6.5-inch Uni-Q ‘point source’ driver array compared to the four 6.5-inch bass drivers and 6.5-inch Uni-Q driver of the Ci5160REF-THX.

The bass drivers feature a large vented magnet assembly and both the 3160 and 5160 use the same Reference, solid aluminium front baffle, which eliminates unwanted vibrations. Each In-Wall model can be used in left, right, centre, side and rear applications.

Prices for the Reference range are as follows:

Reference 5 - Flagship three-way floorstander: RRP £15,000 per pair
Reference 3 - Mid-sized three-way floorstander: RRP £10,500 per pair
Reference 1 - Three-way standmounter: RRP £6,500 per pair
