JBL announces Bar 5.0 MultiBeam Soundbar

Harman’s Explore online presentation has revealed a new compact, all-in-one soundbar from JBL, the Bar 5.0 MultiBeam.

The JBL Bar 5.0 MultiBeam is the latest addition to the company’s Bar series of products and sees a move away from its nearest sibling the JBL Bar 5.1 by dropping the wireless subwoofer to concentrate on producing a cinematic experience in a compact all-in-one soundbar.

Designed for any living space, the Bar 5.0 MultiBeam delivers a simple and unique experience for TV, movies, music and games. For the first time, JBL combines Virtual Dolby Atmos with its proprietary Multibeam beamforming technology to deliver a spacious 3D sound experience. The Virtual Dolby Atmos allows the Bar 5.0 to  reproduce the audio height dimensions while MultiBeam enables users to hear and feel surround sound without needing additional speakers, in effect turning any living space into a 3D personal theatre.

To compensate for the lack of a separate subwoofer, the Bar 5.0 uses four passive radiators to dispense the low end, which contributes to the overall room filling effect of the soundbar.

This all-in-one soundbar is designed for ease of use. It easily integrates and works with all multiroom ecosystems and music services. Users can wirelessly stream music, via Alexa Multi-Room Music (MRM), Apple Airplay 2 and Chromecast built-in, as well as Bluetooth. The JBL Bar 5.0 MultiBeam is also compatible with all iOS and Android devices.

Dave Rogers, President, HARMAN Lifestyle Audio, stated, “Built with industrial elements that exhibit a sleek, modern look, the JBL Bar 5.0 MultiBeam is a welcome addition to anyone’s household.” He added, “Alongside an upgraded compact design and added technological features, this soundbar rounds out the JBL Bar Series, bringing consumers an added layer of innovation and ease of use.”

JBL’s Bar 9.1 was one of AVForums’ favourite soundbars of 2020 and won our Editor’s Choice Award for Best Soundbar in the £600 - £1000 price range, so the signs are promising for the Bar 5.0 MultiBeam to also deliver a noteworthy performance in 2021.

The JBL Bar 5.0 MultiBeam will be available in Black on JBL's website and select retailers in Spring 2021 for £349.99.
