IFA 2017: New 65-inch Philips 9 Series OLED TV announced
Philips has just announced a 65-inch version of its 9002 OLED TV.
This new TV combines the latest OLED technology with Philips TV P5 Perfect Picture engine and three-sided Ambilight system to create a new flagship product for the Philips TV range .
The new 9 Series is claimed to produce a peak white output of 900 nits ensuring an excellent contrast ratio and allowing the brightest and darkest elements of an image to be reproduced on-screen simultaneously. It can also cover 99% of the DCI colour gamut (99% DCI-P3).
The 65” OLED 9 series also enjoys a hugely improved viewing angle over edge lit LCD TVs, says Philips, delivering consistent brightness, colour and contrast, to wherever the viewer is seated.
With the new Philips P5 processing engine already delivering a 50% performance improvement over the previous Perfect Pixel Ultra HD engine, says the manufacturer, the 65” OLED 9 series TV hits Philips highest ever picture performance index score with an incredible 3800 PPI – we’ll have to take their word on that.
P5 has the power of five processors, they say, in one with the sheer processing scale necessary to handle the masses of data delivered by Ultra HD and 4K images. P5 analyses, deconstructs and individually addresses each of the five variables that define picture quality: Source perfection, Sharpness, Colour, Contrast and Motion.
The sound system features six front firing drivers – mounted in the aluminium and Kvadrat speaker cloth covered integrated sound base for the mid and high notes while a backfiring Triple Ring speaker – with an integrated bass port – promises good bass performance. The sound base can be used either on a table top or wall mounted, in either case, the speaker cloth remains clearly visible.
The 65” OLED 9 series is powered by the Android M TM Smart TV system and is certified by Google, giving access to all TV orientated apps, services, and content in the Google Play Store while also complementing the existing Philips Smart TV offering.
The new 55-inch 9 Series will be available in September at £2000 with the 65-inch to follow in January 2018 with price TBA.
