Huawei unveils FreeBuds Pro 2 true wireless earbuds

Huawei + Devialet = Best of buds?

by Ian Collen

Huawei has announced the imminent arrival of its new FreeBuds Pro 2 true wireless earbuds, co-engineered with French audio specialist Devialet.

Quite how the two companies have combined their respective expertise isn’t entirely clear, but given that Huawei is very well known for the likes of its smartphones and other consumer devices, some help with the audio elements for the FreeBuds Pro 2 from Devialet, which has recently added the Dione soundbar to a long list of specialist audio products, should be no bad thing.

Devialet Dione Dolby Atmos Soundbar Review

Devialet Dione Dolby Atmos Soundbar Review

by Simon Lucas ·
The Devialet Dione is big, beefy and bold with the eye-catching ORB acting as a centre channel. It's at the top end of the single device solutions for Dolby Atmos TV audio and will have to prove its worth against a serious rival...

Perhaps as a result of this collaboration, the earbuds boast a few firsts in its sector, most notably a unique Dual Speaker True Sound system. This includes a quad-magnet dynamic driver for the medium and lower frequencies, as well as a micro planar diaphragm to cater for treble and overtones, to deliver an enhanced and precise performance.

Huawei says that the FreeBuds Pro 2 offer a 15% ANC improvement over its predecessor.

The FreeBuds Pro 2 also feature Advanced Noise Cancellation (ANC), with a triple-microphone ambient noise pick-up system that Huawei is claiming offers a 15% improvement over its predecessor, along with Intelligent Dynamic ANC 2.0 to identify and eliminate background sounds. The microphones work alongside a bone sensor and Neural Network algorithm to further optimise the noise-cancellation tech, introducing a new Pure Voice system to deliver clear and quiet calls, even in potentially noisy surroundings.

The earbuds are also HWA and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certified, and support the LDCA high-resolution audio codec. The FreeBuds Pro 2 span an audio range from 14Hz to 48kHz and also come equipped with Triple Adaptive EQ technology. They can be connected to, and seamlessly switch between, two devices, be it your phone, laptop or PC, or a host of other Android, iOS, and Windows-friendly devices.

The stylish design weighs in at 6.1g per earbud, with a battery life that starts out at four hours with ANC turned on, rising up to six and a half without. With the accompanying charging case, that can be boosted to 18 and 30 hours respectively, with reverse charging also on offer for devices that support it. As you might expect, the FreeBuds Pro 2 also come equipped with Huawei Music, with its large catalogue of tracks and customised audio effects created exclusively for the earbuds.
