Google Assistant launching on 2018 Sony Android TVs
Sony Europe has announced that a selection of its higher-end 2018 4K HDR TVs with Android TV now have the Google Assistant built in, starting first with the UK, with more countries to follow later in 2018.
The models in question are AF8, XF90, XF85, XF80, XF75 series that, thanks to their voice operated remotes, can use Google Assistant for quick access to films, music and other content, as well as control smart home devices and perform information searches.
The Google Assistant turns a compatible televisions with Android TV into a complete entertainment-come-smart home hub, says Sony. Users can make voice commands to watch a movie or their favourite TV series on Google Play and ‘other services’ – simply by saying ‘play Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle on Google Play’ you can launch the app.
The Google Assistant enhances the entertainment experience and serves as a smart home hub to more than 1,500 compatible smart home devices from over 225 popular brands. This includes, for instance, light and thermostat control through simple commands, such as ‘turn off the kitchen lights’ or ‘set the thermostat to 20 degrees.’
The Google Assistant will begin to roll out across a selection of Sony televisions in the UK today (20th June 2018) with completion on all compatible models expected in June 2018. Additionally, later this year, The Google Assistant will launch in France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands.
