Freeview Play coming to 2017 Philips 4K Smart TV

6000 Series for starters

  • TPVision, the owners of the Philips TV brand outside the US, has announced that the company’s new 6162 and 6262 2017 range of Philips Smart TVs will be the first Philips sets to feature the Freeview Play service in the UK.
The Philips 6000 Series feature Ultra HD resolution TVs, of course, in addition to High Dynamic Range (HDR) capability - including HDR10 and HLG - via their IPS panels.

In a short space of time, Freeview Play has made very good in-roads into the Smart TV market with Panasonic, LG and Hisense already on-board, as well as products from JVC, Hitachi and Humax also featuring the free to use content.

Freeview Play combines catch-up, on-demand services and live television together in one place. The subscription-free TV service offers viewers 70 digital TV channels, with 15 in HD, as well as an enhanced EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) allowing viewers to access catch-up programming from BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, Demand 5 and UKTV Play by scrolling back through the TV guide. Additional on-demand content is also available from the Freeview Play apps page.

The addition of the Freeview Play service will allow TPVision to offer the full suite of catch-up services on these new ranges of Philips Smart TVs in the UK.
