Film studio Lionsgate have announced that the US Blu-ray release of Ex Machina on the 14th of July will be the first to include a DTS:X soundtrack.
This doesn't come as a complete surprise, as the studio has always been quick to embrace new formats. Their Blu-ray release of The Expendables II was the first and about the only disc to include a DTS Neo:X soundtrack and The Expendables III was the second Blu-ray to be released with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. Although Ex Machina will be released on Blu-ray in the UK on the 1st of June, that's through a different distributor and won't include a DTS:X soundtrack. Lionsgate Blu-ray discs are usually regionally encoded in the States, so if you want to take advantage of the US version Ex Machina's DTS:X soundtrack, you'll need a disc player that can handle Region A. However it's good to know that DTS:X Blu-rays are coming, giving those with the necessary capability the chance to experience the new format - with Denon's excellent AVR-X7200 AV receiver among the first to receive a DTS:X firmware update in the summer.
