Dolby Vision and Atmos coming to VUDU

This is how you do it Sony

by Mark Hodgkinson Nov 18, 2015

  • Dolby Laboratories has announced that VUDU customers now have access to a catalogue of Warner Bros. titles remastered for Dolby Vision and mixed in Dolby Atmos.
Consumers with Dolby Vision enabled televisions and Dolby Atmos enabled home theatre products can now enjoy a variety of next-generation entertainment content through VUDU, which is a US based streaming service.

Dolby Vision – a form of HDR video - provides extra brightness, contrast, and colour while Atmos allows sound to move around the room in a three-dimensional way in order to create a more powerfully immersive experience.

Dolby is excited to bring Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos entertainment content to consumers,” said Curt Behlmer, SVP, Content Solutions & Industry Relations, Dolby Laboratories. “With this development, Dolby elevates and advances the movie-watching experience at home and provides people with the ability to enjoy movies with ultra-vivid colors, expanded contrast, and immersive sound.”

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is expanding their library of 4K Ultra HD movies available in both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos to include Mad Max: Fury Road, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Gallows, San Andreas, American Sniper, Man of Steel, Jupiter Ascending, Edge of Tomorrow, and Into the Storm. Through VUDU, consumers also have access to a library of 4K Ultra HD titles in Dolby Vision only, including Vacation, Focus, Get Hard, Run All Night, The Lego Movie, The Great Gatsby, Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Hangover trilogy, Magic Mike XXL, and more.

We have to say that’s a much better line-up than Sony’s first batch of Ultra HD Blu-ray titles and some nice additions to those announced by Warner in January 2015

With our titles remastered in 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Vision and breathtaking sound quality in Dolby Atmos, we know that we are giving our customers a true-to-life film experience that engages them in a dramatically enhanced visual and audio experience.” said Jim Wuthrich, President, Americas, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

VUDU has always provided customers with the best digital home entertainment experience around,” said Scott Blanksteen, Vice President of Product, VUDU. “We were at the forefront of high-definition digital video with our HDX format, and now, by offering movies with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, we’re again giving customers the opportunity to be the first to enjoy a premium visual and audio experience.”

Now then VUDU, about those plans to launch in the UK…
