Dirac Live Bass Control, the latest feature for acoustic correction software Dirac Live, is now officially available via a range of AV products from Bryston, Focal and StormAudio, with units from Arcam, AudioControl, JBL Synthesis and others soon to follow.
Room acoustic software suite Dirac Live already features Dirac Live Room Correction, the industry’s reference and award-winning room calibration tool and now Live Bass Control is the second addon to be made available.
Featuring machine learning and AI, Dirac Live Bass Control intelligently co-optimizes a system’s subwoofers and speakers to deliver consistent and accurate bass throughout an entire room.
Live Bass Control operates in three tiers, the first is called Enabled and allows manual control of a single subwoofer, while the second mode, Limited, provides automatic management of a sole sub. The last option, Complete, employs AI to control a multi-subwoofer setup.
By compiling and analysing measurements and location data from each subwoofer, Dirac Live Bass Control can determine how a system's bass gets distributed throughout an environment. By identifying gaps, the software can redistribute bass more evenly across the room. And it not only does this for the subwoofers in the system, it will also correct the low end sound waves produced by the speaker pair so the bass produced by each speaker is in perfect sync with the system.
Niklas Thorin, Dirac’s GM of High Performance Audio, explained, “Speaker and subwoofer sound waves bounce throughout a space and collide with one another to create crossover areas with uneven bass distribution.” Thorin added, “Dirac Live Bass Control measures and phase corrects both the speakers and subwoofers across all frequencies to produce enhanced bass clarity and improved bass tone evenness throughout the room. It’s a game-changing feature for the home theater industry that’s now available through some of the world’s finest AVRs.”
France-based audio company StormAudio’s MK2 hardware, plus AV models from Bryston, and Focal that already feature Dirac Live Room Correction will now come equipped with Dirac Live Bass Control (Complete).
Meanwhile owners of StormAudio’s MK1 hardware can get the software addon via a firmware download and JBL’s Synthesis AVRs, Arcam’s AVR10, AVR20, AVR30, and AVR40 units and AudioControl’s Concert XR-4, XR-6, XR-8 and Maestro X7 and X9 will all soon get the update - presumably also via a firmware update.
