Denon launches DRA-800H Stereo Network Receiver
In move conflating a variety of functions, Denon releases the DRA-800H, a stereo network receiver that hopes to suit a wide range of applications.
Drawing upon both its considerable Hi-Fi heritage and AV receiver technical expertise, Denon’s DRA-800H is designed for music lovers and TV fans alike with its optimised two-channel power and pre-amplifier section plus support for full 4K video with HDMI ARC.

An advanced connectivity array that covers digital inputs (including HMDI), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a phono input and FM/DAB radio promises content availability from music sources, TVs and a host of digital devices.

Under its aluminium bonnet, the DRA-800H features a newly designed power amplifier section with Left/Right symmetrical design, custom Denon capacitors and Oxygen Free Copper winding power transformer, all of which help to deliver 100 watts per channel (8ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, THD: 0.08%, 2ch driven). The pre-amp section aims to reduce signal noise and improve audio quality by using selected audiophile components and double differential DAC circuitry. This all combines to provide greater stability for a wide range of floorstanding and bookshelf speakers and with gold plated A/B speaker terminals, 2 pairs of speakers can be connected or the option of bi-wiring is available.

Support for Hi-Res audio and lossless files types, including ALAC, FLAC and WAV up to 24-bit/196 kHz, plus 2.8/5.6-MHz DSD files is enabled by the use of AKM AK4458 32-bit D/A converters. Files can be retrieved from storage media via a front panel USB port or over the network using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, where more typical files such as MP3 add WMA can also be accessed. AirPlay 2 is also supported so music and podcasts stored on iPhones, iPads and Macs can be easily streamed.

The DRA-800H has an integrated phono input complete with a Moving Magnet equaliser to allow users to enjoy their vinyl libraries.

Denon’s HEOS system is built-in so support for multi-room wireless streaming is available with compatible speakers and devices. Included are versions of streaming services such as Spotify, Deezer, TI DAL, Amazon Music, TuneIn Radio Sound cloud and others, so there’s always easy access to music or a playlist.
To cater for games, TV shows and movies, the five HDMI inputs and one output are fully compatible with current standards and can therefore support pass-through of 4K Ultra HD 60Hz video, 4:4:4 Pure Color sub sampling, High Dynamic Range (HDR10), Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG), 3D and the BT.2020 colour gamut. All the HDMI ports are HDCP 2.3 compatible and one is ARC (Audio Return Channel) enabled so audio can be passed directly from the TV to the receiver through the connected HDMI cable.

With support for Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Apple’s Siri, users can issue a variety of voice commands to adjust the volume, skip to the next track, switch inputs for different media players, and more.

The DRA-800H will be available in July at authorized Denon retailers in a black or premium silver finish at £599.
