Denon expands its Home range of wireless speakers with the addition of the Dolby Atmos and DTS:X compatible Home 550 soundbar.
Adding to the company’s Home range of wireless speakers, the Home 550 soundbar will deliver immersive 3D Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround sound via its six-driver array as well as high resolution music from a variety of sources. Built-in HEOS enables multi room audio for listeners who have invested in the HEOS ecosystem and Amazon Alexa voice assistant is coming via a firmware update due in April.
The included acoustic hardware features premium drivers and expertly tuned digital signal processing in a single compact package that can be expanded using other Denon Home speakers, including the Denon Home 150, 250 and 350, which can be implemented as rear-channel surrounds. Additionally, the separate DSW-1H wireless subwoofer can boost bass for an even more realistic theatre experience in the form of a complete wireless 5.1 system.
Like its Home siblings the 550 soundbar uses a proximity sensor to detect an approaching hand which will initiate illumination of the soundbar’s control panel to help enable easy fingertip control of volume, play/pause, muting Alexa, and the ability to skip or restart songs.
However, if you want arm’s length control from the comfort of your viewing position, the included remote control and HEOS app allow further options with three Quick Select buttons to store and recall preferred sources with listening modes or Internet radio stations.
Voice control in the form of Amazon Alexa smart assistant functionality will be enabled in the spring with a planned firmware update giving owners the opportunity to use the Home 550 as an Alexa controller like an Echo or Echo Dot, if they wish. The included microphones used for picking up vocal commands will not be activated without the user’s express permission. However, once they are, it’s possible to conveniently use voice instructions to control the sound bar’s volume, select inputs, and choose audio modes (Music, Movie, Pure).
Finally, control of the Denon Home 550 as part of a fully integrated smart home installation is possible since it is the first Denon soundbar to include onboard software drivers for Control4, Crestron, URC, Elan, and more.
The 550 soundbar has an HDMI input, an HDMI eARC compatible output, and supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ HDR formats.
Connectivity is available via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Apple AirPlay 2 to easily stream from services like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music HD, TIDAL and more, as well allowing access to high-resolution files stored on phones or home networks.
Meanwhile, the HEOS Built-in functionality gives users access to millions of songs, including thousands of high-resolution digital audio tracks. Listeners can use the app to play different music in each room or group all HEOS Built-in and Denon Home devices together to stream the same music in Party Mode throughout the home.
The Denon Home Sound Bar 550 (£599/€649/$599) will be available in-store mid-February 2021 and available for pre-order 1st February 2021 at authorised Denon Retailers and www.denon.co.uk.
