Dali’s five-year-old Opticon speaker range gets an update which sees new ideas and technologies plus a fresh aesthetic.
The six models that comprise the refreshed Opticon MK2 series - the Opticon 1 Bookshelf, Opticon 2 MK2 standmount, Opticon 6 and 8 MK2 floorstanders, Opticon LCR MK2 on wall speakers and the Opticon Vokal MK2 centre channel speaker - all maintain the original’s DNA but see new tweeter technology which has been derived from the company’s Callisto series, thus providing a consistent sonic signature. In the case of all but the Opticon 1 and 2 MK2 models, this new 29mm soft dome tweeter features alongside a ribbon tweeter, thus exhibiting Dali's renowned hybrid tweeter module which aims for optimum clarity, smoothness, and detail.
Further improvements include newly developed wood fibre cones with a darker signature colour which complements the speakers’ new appearance and within the drivers sits the SMC (Soft Magnet Compound) technology derived from the Dali Epicon speaker series.
There’s also the Dual Flare reflex ports which ensure a smooth non-turbulent air flow through MK2 models 1, 2, 6 and 8.
The new tweeters, drivers and the revised porting system also provided an opportunity to revise the crossover with a complete redesign and new, higher quality components.
Dali Opticon 1 MK2
The most compact model in the range makes for easy installation near room boundaries or for wall-mounting in smaller listening rooms. The bass response from the Dual Flare reflex loaded 5-litre enclosure integrates naturally with the 120mm Wood-Fibre-diaphragm SMC-magnet bass/ midrange unit and the newly designed 29 mm soft dome tweeter of the Dali Callisto series.
Dali Opticon 2 MK2
Capable of achieving a greater low-frequency bandwidth and volume level than the opticon 1 MK2 due to its larger 10-litre cabinet and 165mm Wood-Fibre-diaphragm SMC-magnet bass/midrange driver, the standmounted Opticon 2 MK also features just the single new 29 mm soft dome tweeter.
Dali Opticon LCR MK2
Designed for wall mounting, the multipurpose enclosure provides suitability for a range of applications from a traditional stereo set-up, to TV audio, or multi-channel home cinema applications. The LCR MK2 Features a wall-assisted reflex port system, 165mm Wood-Fibre-diaphragm SMC-magnet bass/midrange driver and the rotatable hybrid tweeter module.
Dali Opticon Vokal MK2
The dedicated centre channel of the new Opticon MK2 series, the Vokal has a 165mm Wood-Fibre-diaphragm SMC-magnet bass/midrange driver and the Dali hybrid tweeter and also features front facing reflex ports to allow fully enclosed mounting if required.
Dali Opticon 6 MK2
The smaller, slimmer of the two floorstanders adds twin 165mm Wood-Fibre-diaphragm SMC-magnet bass/midrange drivers to its hybrid soft dome and ribbon tweeter.
Dali Opticon 8 MK2
At almost 50-inches tall, the largest of the Opticon MK2 speakers has space to add a large SMC based low-frequency bass driver to the pair of SMC mid range drivers and hybrid tweeter providing a three-way configuration to cover all music and cinematic eventualities.
The Opticon MK2 speakers are all fully manufactured in-house in the DALI factory in Denmark and every one is built and tested in pairs to ensure ultimate acoustic pair matching.
The series is available in three new finishes; Satin White, Satin Black, and Tobacco Oak. though Opticon 8 MK2 is available in Satin Black and Tobacco Oak only.
The MK2 grilles are covered with furniture grade cloth, in Black for the two darker finishes and Light Grey for the White finish.
