Creative has added a new addition to its Outlier True Wireless collection of earbuds, with the Outlier Pro adding hybrid Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and an Ambient Mode.
It feels like it’s been a little while since we talked about Creative’s range of headphones, with its soundbars having been rather more fashionable of late, but with the Outlier Pro true wireless earbuds the company is once again showcasing its affinity for more mobile audio solutions. They come in a cool metallic umber curved design, weighing in at just 7g each.
The ANC gets the hybrid name by combining both the feed-forward and feedback ANC systems of each earbud, to keep your music or conversation untainted by background noise. Conversely, if you’re walking around and would quite like to hear if there’s a car screeching around the next corner or that there’s a lion on the loose, you can quickly swap out to Ambient Mode to let a little more of the outside world creep into your ears.
Another new feature of the Creative Outlier Pro are the larger 10mm graphene-coated driver diaphragms (compared to 6mm bio-cellulose drivers on the Outlier Air 3) which, according to Creative, “translates to better clarity, enhanced bass, and effective ANC quality – all while improving the power efficiency of the earbuds.”
Perhaps just as appealing is the impressive 60 hours of battery life, with up to 15 hours of playback on single charge (although those numbers drops to 40 and 10 hours respectively with the hybrid ANC in use). There is the option for wireless charging, but the charger will cost you extra. The Outlier Pro earbuds also boast six microphones (three each side), IPX5 water resistance and compatibility with Bluetooth 5.2 along with Siri and Google Assistant.
Needless to say, this is all supported by the Creative app to enable you to customise the Outlier Pro as you see fit, such as adapting the touch controls or the level of ambient noise, with the newly added option of a Low Latency Mode to help better synchronise your A/V experience. One other interesting addition is that the earbuds are tuned to support Super X-Fi Ready, a free preview version of Creative's technology available through the SXFI app where you can try out its ‘holographic audio’ for a more realistic 3D sound (as seen in the Creative SXFI Carrier soundbar) – although it only applies to your downloaded tracks, not streaming content.
Creative's Outlier Pro earbuds are available now priced at £84.99 (€89.99), with three different sizes of silicone ear tips to find the perfect fit.
