Chord hit the right note with the Huei phono preamp.
UK audio company, Chord Electronics, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and as part of those celebrations it has unveiled the Huei, an advanced microprocessor controlled phono preamp that brings together three decades of experience and innovation.Proud of their Great British heritage, the Huei has been designed using the same high standards found in Chord’s amplifier programme.The Huei offers both Moving Magnet and Moving Coil functionality and, for the first time in a Chord phono preamp, an ultra low noise microprocessor is used to control the phonostage’s main features and includes a memory function.
The design provides options for impedance matching and features a switchable seven-stage gain which provides compatibility with a huge number of cartridges. The high- and low-gain settings are accessible via the distinctive front panel polychromatic control spheres for added flexibility.
Chord have housed the Huei in the characteristic Qutest chassis that sports the top mounted viewing window that opens up the hidden world of the illuminated internal components. The multi-coloured front panel control globes also offer direct selection for MM/MC cartridges and access to the on-board rumble filter.
Integrating the Huei into a turntable based audio system comes courtesy of RCA inputs and balanced RCA and unbalanced XLR outputs.
