Chord Electronics launches Anni desktop amplifier

Anni are you ok, are you ok, Anni?

by Andy Bassett

The new bijou Anni amplifier conveniently presents Chord Electronics’ Ultima technology in a diminutive footprint for high performance headphones and compact loudspeakers.

Having expanded its ULTIMA range of amplifiers at the heftier end of the spectrum, Chord Electronics has introduced its proprietary ULTIMA circuit technology into the small desktop Anni integrated amplifier.

Part of the Qutest range, the Anni blends seamlessly with the multi-award-winning Qutest standalone DAC and Huei phono stage. As a combined system, the components provide class-leading digital and analogue technologies as a desktop audio solution for modern music fans. For ease of use and to reduce clutter, Chord’s  compact QSS (Qutest Stand System) modular equipment rack provides the perfect space saving support, too.

Anni offers Chord Electronics’ recently announced dual-feed-forward error-correction circuit topology whether using headphones or compact loudspeakers, and this advanced technology allows it to drive any headphone load, with error-monitored and compensated amplification at all times.

The presence of both 3.5 mm and ¼-inch (6.35 mm) headphone outputs means two listeners can engage simultaneously via wired headsets. Plus, with the 4mm banana-type loudspeaker outputs, Anni can deliver 10 watts of ULTIMA-quality amplification, controlled by a fascia-mounted volume control that also doubles as an input selector switch for Anni’s two line-level inputs. Additionally, there’s a two-stage gain control for loudspeakers which provides additional flexibility for a wide range of desktop monitors.

As with all of Chord Electronics’ products, Anni is entirely designed, engineered and built in the UK and benefits from the same precision CNC-machined high-grade aluminium casework. The company’s trademark polychromatic control spheres which govern the power and gain controls remain in place and complement the fascia-mounted volume control/input selector.

A 15V external PSU delivers power to the Anni which benefits from a 12V DC output that is capable of powering the Qutest DAC and Huei phono stage when used with the supplied Qutest range power adaptor.

The Anni is available in a black-only finish and is shipping now with a UK SRP of £1,195.
