  • Nvidia have announced the availability of their Turning architecture based GPUs for mobile computing with the focus on the RTX 2060 at £329, which puts this latest affordable gaming GPU within reach of millions of keen gamers across the globe.
The RTX 2060 delivers new levels of performance and features which were previously available only in high-end gaming GPUs. These include graphics enhanced by ray tracing and AI capabilities.

Ray tracing is a rendering technique for generating an image by tracing the path of light as pixels in an image plane and simulating the effects of its encounters with virtual objects. This produces a very high degree of visual realism but the technique was long thought to be solely within the realms of the movie VFX industry due to the great computational cost. However, these abilities are now available to gamers who prefer to play their favoured destruction-littered pastime on a laptop.

GeForce RTX has made real-time ray tracing a reality,” said Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney, and Kam VedBrat, partner group program manager for DirectX at Microsoft, echoes “Ray tracing will transform the way games are created, look and play”.

The RTX 2060 comes equipped with 6GB of GDDR6 memory and 240 Tensor Cores that can deliver 52 teraflops of deep learning horsepower, which can improve gaming performance through a feature known as Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS).

The RTX 2060 will be available globally starting Jan 15th from every major OEM, system builder and graphics card partner and by Jan 29th more than 40 new laptop models, in 100-plus configurations and from every significant OEM, will be available and powered by, not only the RTX 2060, but also the mid and high end 2070 and 2080 respectively.

Using the Max-Q design approach nearly half of these laptops will be thinner, lighter and more power efficient than their non-Max-Q counterparts.
Max-Q is an innovative approach to crafting the world's thinnest, fastest, quietest gaming laptops. Everything is engineered for the ultimate, thin gaming laptop experience, including the laptop, chip, drivers, thermal and electrical components and more. It hits the sweet spot of ultimate GeForce gaming and impossibly sleek design.

All this power and innovation is certain to make the game playing experience all the more immersive and realistic. We say, 'Game on!'
