  • BT has announced that its first broadcast including Dolby Atmos immersive audio will take place on the 31st of January 2017.
They’ve chosen a potentially noisy and atmospheric subject, too, with it being a clash between Premier League title contenders Liverpool and Chelsea. It is truly a milestone event in UK broadcasting with its combination of Ultra HD video and object-based Dolby Atmos sound. Naturally, BT is only opening this up to subscribers of BT Sport’s UHD TV packages and then those with an immersive audio setup will form an ever smaller niche but it's exciting news nonetheless!

The match at Anfield on Tuesday the 31st of January, will kick off at 8pm and BT plans for every following Premier League match broadcast live on BT Sport to be available in UHD and Dolby Atmos sound, as well as a selection of FA Cup games. From this season, BT has doubled the number of sports events broadcast in Ultra HD.

Speaking earlier in 2016, Delia Bushell, managing director of BT TV and BT Sport, said: “BT’s mission has always been to provide a high quality, premium TV service at prices that give unbeatable value to UK consumers. We will keep driving the pace of innovation in content, broadcasting and our customers’ experience."
