Bang & Olufsen has announced the upcoming launch of its latest wearable audio solution, with the Beoplay EX billed as its “most versatile true wireless ANC earphones to date”.
With a stem-based design, the Beoplay EX has a new look compared to its predecessors, following on from the likes of the Beoplay EQ that launched last year. The in-ear housing is smaller than ever, with each earphone weighing in at 6g for a snug and stable fit, aided by silicone tips with Comply Foam. However, there’s still room to house the largest speaker used by Bang & Olufsen in a true wireless device, with 9.2mm electro-dynamic drivers using neodymium magnets.
The Beoplay EX come with Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), plus additional background noise reduction. Each earphone boasts three digital microphones, beamforming technology and built-in voice functionality, which should ensure the switch from music to a phone call or Zoom meeting is a seamless one. There’s Bluetooth 5.2 to help keep a clean connection, plus Multipoint to hook up two devices at the same time, enabling you to combine the likes of your phone and TV and easily swap between them.
Battery life is pitched at the 20-hour mark when you add the six hours of playtime (with ANC turned on) to the back-up supply in the accompanying brushed aluminium case, which includes wireless charging as well as the usual USB option. The Beoplay EX is also IP57-certified for dust resistance and waterproofing, so the earphones should be able to shrug off all but the harshest of conditions.
Commenting on the upcoming launch, Dorte Vestergaard, Bang & Olufsen’s category director said: “Beoplay EX embodies the seamless blend of comfort, luxury and quality sound that threads the entirety of our legendary audio portfolio together. From our award-winning Beoplay H95 over-ear ANC headphones to Beoplay Portal, our premiere entry to the gaming market, Beoplay EX is the natural next step in our superior sound offering.”
The Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX will be available from 05 May, priced at £349 (€399 / $399) in the Anthracite Oxygen finish, with the Gold Tone and Black Anthracite colourways to follow on 27 May and a TBC date in June.
