Designed with a slim silhouette in mind, the new B&O Beosound Emerge speaker delivers a full range, ultra-wide sound through its revolutionary driver configuration, despite its size.
The second B&O designed product from the collaboration between the renowned Danish audio firm and Benjamin Hubert, following the debut of the Beosound Balance, is the Beosound Emerge speaker.
Literally taking on the mantle of a bookshelf speaker with its compact book form factor of 255 x 165 x 67 mm (HxDxW) and weight of 1.38kg, the Beosound Emerge has been created to deliver the high quality audio expected from the company’s speaker portfolio but with a minimal space impact on the surroundings, while still exuding the air of an elegant interior object.
To complete the illusion, the side panels wrap around the speaker like the cover of a book, while the front of the speaker is marked with Bang & Olufsen’s logo in the same way the spine of a book features the author’s name.
Built to extend sound without taking up space, the Emerge uses a unique loudspeaker driver configuration that enables a full-range audio experience from the slender form. The 37mm midrange is mounted at an angle to maintain the narrow design of speaker and emits sound from the front along with the 14mm soft dome tweeter. To help fill the room with sound, the output of the 100mm side-firing woofer is guided to the back of the product and all of this is powered by 120W of Class D amplification. Moreover, the low frequency range is improved by the built-in active room compensation technology that customises the sound design for the placement of the speaker in the listening environment.
To ensure a degree of future proofing, the Emerge has been equipped with the same replaceable connectivity module as the recently announced Besound Level speaker. Thus, as new connectivity and streaming technologies come on line, the speaker’s life can be extended with a simple module swapover.
And this connectivity means that the Emerge can be added to other Bang & Olufsen Connected Speakers, including the Beoplay A9 or Beosound Balance, to create a setup for delivering music throughout the home. In addition, two Beosound Emerge speakers can be wirelessly linked together to form a stereo pair for a more immersive audio experience.
There’s Bluetooth 5.0 and dual band wireless connectivity and support for Apple Airplay 2 and Chromecast plus the Beosound Emerge features a built-in radio and microphone for voice control with Google Assistant.
For those who prefer the hands on approach, Beosound Emerge’s user interface is intuitively incorporated into the top of the product. The buttons can be activated through soft touch where users can pause music, change tracks and easily access favourite radio stations and playlists. Unique interaction using a circular motion adjusts volume up or down for a smooth and sensory experience.
The Beosound Emerge Gold Tone features an oak wood cover that wraps around the woven Kvadrat textile on its spine and is finished with pearl-blasted aluminium, anodised in a gold tone. The speaker cover can also be chosen in a high-grade aluminium Black Anthracite finish with a pearl-blasted grill. The polymer side panels feature a vertical corrugated pattern that accentuates the slim lines of the speaker.
Christoffer Poulsen, Senior Vice President and Head of Product Management at Bang & Olufsen, explained, “The vision for Beosound Emerge was to create the slimmest speaker possible that could still deliver full range, ultra-wide sound despite its size through its revolutionary driver configuration.” He added, “Whether placed on a bookshelf in the bedroom or a tight corner of the kitchen, Beosound Emerge’s slim design allows you to extend your music to a new room or complement an existing speaker in the same area without taking up extra space.”
The Beosound Emerge speaker in Gold Tone will be available for an RRP of £669 (€749 / $899) and in Black Anthracite for £539 (€599 / $699) and can be purchased online and in Bang & Olufsen stores in selected European markets from 15th April 2021. Global availability is from Autumn 2021.
Bang & Olufsen’s proprietary Beolink connectivity will be available on Beosound Emerge via an over-the-air software update in the autumn.
