Bang & Olufsen adds 48-inch OLED to Beovision TV range

Contour mapped out for Beovision

by Andy Bassett

Danish lifestyle based technology gurus Bang & Olufsen have announced the new 48-inch Beovision Contour OLED TV along with updates to its Beovision Eclipse TV and the introduction of its Beovision Harmony Motorized Floor Stand.

The Beovision Contour TV joins a small but select (and seemingly growing) number of 48-inch OLED TVs which includes the likes of LG’s OLED48CX, Sony’s A9 and the very recent Philips OLED+935 48-inch models.

Since Bang & Olufsen use LG’s OLED panels it’s not really surprising to see a 48-inch OLED model being introduced into the Beovision range and, as such it, will feature the CX’s latest technologies including HDMI 2.1 and Dolby Vision IQ

However, where it will differ from its rivals is with the incorporation of B&O’s Beosound Stage soundbar technology, which fits in with the company’s ‘Sound is more than half the picture‘ ethos. Behind the speaker cover are eleven powerful speaker drivers including 4 x 4-inch custom bass drivers which allow bigger cone movement to provide an improved bass performance down to 30 Hz.

The Contour comes in Silver, Black Anthracite and Gold Tone, with matching fabric or wood veneer finishes for the speaker front cover. The wood veneers are Light Oak or Smoked Oak to match the colour option for the aluminium frame.

To allow placement anywhere in the home, there are three stand options available and these include an aluminium floor stand, a wall mount engineered to be adjustable for the perfect viewing angle and finally a tabletop stand made from a solid, rectangular aluminium billet.

All cabling is routed through the centre rear of the TV and hidden from view, offering a holistic 360-degree design, which allows the TV to remain visually appealing from any angle.

Christoffer Østergaard Poulsen, SVP of Product Management at Bang & Olufsen, commented, “We are excited to launch Beovision Contour, a screen viewing experience that doesn’t compromise on quality or design aesthetics despite its size. Our customers tell us there is a need for a mid-sized screen solution with flexible placement options built to the highest standards of performance and design, which is why we made Beovision Contour.”

The addition of the 48-inch Contour now means the Beovision range encompasses both the smallest and the largest OLED TV screen sizes currently available, with the Beovision Harmony models topping out at  88-inches, while the 55- and 65-inch Beovision Eclipse entries cover the mid-sized TVs.

In fact, the Eclipse-55 has undergone an update to include the latest LG OLED GX screen technology and a sound-centre upgrade to cater for the new screen, resulting in the Eclipse 2nd Generation. The integrated 3-channel stereo setup can also connect wired and wirelessly to additional Beolab speakers via the integrated surround sound decoder, to enable a fully-fledged 7.1 channel immersive cinematic experience.

Additionally, the new motorised Beovision Harmony Floor Stand for the Eclipse Harmony models means your TV can be adjusted to the perfect viewing angle with just the touch of a button. The stand comes in Silver, Brass tone, Bronze tone and Gold tone to match the TV’s colourways.

The Beovision Contour OLED TV, including wall bracket will have an RRP of  £5,150 (€5,700 $5,900) while the Beovision Eclipse-55 2nd Gen, including motorized floor stand will retail for £8,650 (€9,955).

Both are available online and in Bang & Olufsen stores in Europe from November 2020 with global availability from February 2021.
