This week we discus the release of BFI's first 4K disc, The Seventh Seal and, in honour of it, our favourite foreign language releases. We'll also be talking Criterion, BFI and Arrow boxsets and which our favourite world cinema collections are. PLUS a podcast exclusive competition.

Presented by Casimir Harlow with Simon Crust and Mark Costello

Excellent podcast. :smashin: Seventh seal is sadly not availible in Denmark and importing it will be too expensive. So i'll stick with my R1 Criterion. (sad face)

Why not just order it from Amazon UK?

Due to import taxes, Brexit you know :)
I didn't think Amazon had import taxes as I regularly use Spain, Italy, Germany and US Amazon to get better deals and I'm pretty sure I've never been stung.

One thing outstanding about you guys - {Casimir Harlow with Simon Crust and Mark Costello} is your ability to talk about content without spoilers. Great stuff. Not easy to do.

Excellent show and I'm planning to get the BFI 4K edition of The Seventh Seal next week.

Putting on my pedantic hat for a moment, I must point out that @Simon Crust is incorrect about Raw only getting a Blu-ray release in the UK this year (via the Second Sight LE set). It was actually released on Blu-ray here in August 2017, two months ahead of the German disc he ended up acquiring instead. The reason he was probably unaware of it? It's an HMV exclusive...

I really enjoyed this weeks podcast being a fan of foreign language film.
I appreciated the insight from all the contributors and will be adding a few to my watch list with those recommended that I’ve not seen before.

Cheers.

Managed to find it in a nordic webshop for around msrp

Whilst I usually listen to the regular podcast in the car or if I'm out and about... I now always watch the movies podcast on youtube. Mainly to see all the wonderful sets that you guys own.

To echo the feedback above, it's an excellent podcast and kudos to giving attention to foreign language cinema. What is interesting is how influential Far-Eastern cinema has been to not only you guys but perhaps the wider cinema-going public in general. I reckon we have the likes of Tartan-Asia to thank for making foreign language films achieve mainstream status. It's certainly been my route to "overcoming the 1" subtitle barrier."

I last watched Seventh Seal on on DVD by Tartan; probably on a 19" monitor and DVD drive! I was drawn to it after Bogus Journey and am keen to source the BFI 4K. I bet on an OLED or in a suitable bat-cave environment, it would look stunning - showcasing those specular highlights amidst inky blacks. The only other B&W 4K Dolby Vision movie I've seen is Roma (another foreign language delight) and it is one of the best examples of 4K HDR I have ever seen.

And yeah - I totally agree about the lack of some foreign titles on blu-ray. I'm hoping that these boutique labels run with it and would love to see some more of these Tartan / Tartan Asia classics be given the HD or 4K-HDR treatment.
