Thanks Guys, really enjoyed this Podcast

I missed the "live" version on this occasion but I enjoyed the subsequent recording with the verbal amblings through these films. Persis Khambatta who played Lieutenant Ilia in ST:TMP (and had her head shaved for the part) married Hollywood actor Cliff Taylor only weeks after meeting him in June 1981 which was a couple of years after the release of that first ST film, two months later they filed for divorce. Tragically she passed away far too young at the age of 49 from a massive heart attack in 1998.

Thank you for the Podcast - I am one of those Trek Fans, but don’t like that term Treky.
Me and my brother were able to recite Wrath of Khan word by word when watching just before actors started talking. Shameful.

Hi Steve Withers,

Well highlighted on the point about Khan Noonien Singh being potentially a Sikh. Most people are a little ignorant about this, but very happy that you brought this into the discussion. I am a Sikh and have been debating this mystery with friends family for decades.

By the way Steve - my Name is Mandeep from Southall. You did excellent job of Calibrating my OLED TV’s a few years ago and my Mum cooked Indian Mince Lamb fir you and you’re better half.

Now onto the complexity of Khan’s cultural origins.

All male Sikhs have “Singh” as a middle name meaning Lion. But never Singh as a last name. There are Hindu’s that have adopted Singh as a last name, but they are not Sikhs. Female Sikhs are “Kaur” as. Middle name.

So it is unlikely Khan is a Sikh. In addition Khan is unusual as a first name and is typically a last name for Muslims. So that is another oddity about his name.

As for White Sikhs there are many in USA and Canada. I also know a few in UK. So no issue for me with Benedict Cumberbatch potentially cast as a Sikh if that was the intent despite the disaster with naming.

Personally i think Khan is so cool and both Actors played him well and secretly I wish he was a Sikh. Too bad they muffed up the naming. Nice of Gene Roddenberry to think about us Siks.

Hi Mandeep. It's good to hear from you again, and I still remember you mum's excellent cooking!

Thanks also for the Sikh insight. I believe after watching Space Seed again this week that his correct name is actually Noonien Singh Khan, but in the episode they said his last name first for some reason. Hence the confusion. You'll be glad to know they specifically identify Khan as a Sikh in the episode, so there's no doubt about his intended ethnicity. You should watch Space Seed on Netflix, I think you'd really enjoy. Also, I didn't know there were white Sikhs, so thanks for enlightening me. As Spock would say... fascinating.

Thank you i let my Mum know about the cooking. I will watch Space Seed this evening.

I wish they could make a Star Trek Movie about Khan, but don’t let those makers of the Netflix Star Trek Discovery touch it as they will turn him into an emotional fairy cake.

Whilst i usually enjoy Av forum podcasts, there was just too much hole picking and silly laughing in this one. Very off putting and couldn't make it to the end.
Sorry boys not for me.

I am actually looking for all the star trek movies on BluRay if anyone has them?

Excellent podcast - thanks for the insights and observations, really enjoyed the run through all four films.

I’m currently working my way through the set - really enjoyed revisiting TMP and Wrath of Khan was outstanding. Tonight will be Search for Spock. Looking forward to that & especially Voyage Home!

Can’t wait to see the next box set, Undiscovered Country on 4K is an exciting prospect, here’s hoping the do an Atmos mix! That opening scene with Praxis and Excelsior is always a favourite.

Thanks gents. You've made me want to tackle the entire Star Trek universe from the very beginning (something I've always wanted to do but couldn't stomach starting). Think now's the time. I did enjoy TNG, DS9 and Voyager as a kid, plus I had a casual interest in the movies. Looking forward to watching the lot.
