Austrian Audio launches Hi-X65 headphones

From the studio to the home

The Hi-X65, open-back, over-ear headphones from post-AKG Hi-Fi outfit Austrian Audio promise precision listening for audiophiles and sound engineers alike.

Austrian Audio builds on its previous Hi-X55 headphones and brings the Hi-X (High Excursion) technology developed from decades of audio experience into the new Hi-X65 model - a professional monitoring headphone for mixing and mastering which delivers a transparent sound sure to please audiophiles during solo listening sessions.

Also incorporating new state-of-the-art technologies, Hi-X is the key to the Hi-X65 which delivers a linear frequency response and an open, precise, high-resolution sound. Like its stablemates, the Hi-X65 features a 44mm driver and a ring magnet system which allows for improved airflow and includes the strongest magnetic field in its class.

The reduced weight of the copper-clad aluminium voice coil allows the membrane to move or change direction faster, providing a more responsive impulse reaction. This leads to improved bass imaging and superior low THD at low frequencies and, along with the highly detailed reproduction, makes error detection during the mixing and mastering process of audio production that much easier.

For long listening sessions either in the studio or late into the night at home, comfort is ensured by the soft memory foam earpads which have now been redesigned to accommodate the ears more comfortably without altering the external dimensions. In addition, the memory foam padding of the headband has reduced contact pressure courtesy of a clever recess for the head seam.

The headband and ear pads can be easily exchanged and replaced which becomes important in studio situations where a pair of headphones may be used by more than one wearer.

Also important in a studio environment is durability and all the moving and load-bearing components in the Hi-X65 are made of metal for maximum load capacity and, at the end of the day, a sturdy folding construction and carrying bag means they can be stored safely away.

An impedance of 25 ohms ensures power and headroom across a range of sound sources from high-end headphone amplifiers to reference AD converters and from analogue mixers to notebooks.

The included exchangeable cables of 1.2m and 3m in length attach to the Hi-X65 with a secure locking mechanism and the standard 3.5 mm stereo jack plug ensures the highest possible consumer compatibility, while professionals can use an included adapter to a ¼” stereo jack.

The Austrian Audio Hi-X65 headphones are available now priced at £319 RRP including VAT.

Distributed in the UK by Sound Technology Ltd, Austrian Audio was created in 2017 by a group of former AKG engineers as a result of the transfer of the AKG headquarters from Vienna to California after AKG had been bought by Harman.
