Audio-Technica launches Limited Edition ATH-M50xBT2MO wireless headphone

Seasonal flavour for latest exclusive finish

by Andy Bassett

Audio-Technica has gifted its wireless ATH-M50xBT2 headphones a Halloween flavoured makeover with the limited edition pumpkin orange Lantern Glow finish, in the form of the ATH-M50xBT2MO model.

The release follows on from the recent special edition version of the headphone manufacturer’s professional studio ATH-M50xMO in the same colourway.

Chosen in an online poll by Audio-Technica fans from around the globe, Lantern Glow drew 40 percent of the 13,000 votes and maintains a tradition of exclusive colour variants for the M50 range stretching back to the 50th Anniversary ATH-M50s/LE model in 2012, the most recent option being 2020’s purple-and-black ATH-M50xBTPB.

Both the regular on-the-go ATH-M50xBT2 and new ATH-M50xBT2MO model feature a number of enhancements to improve performance and usability, while staying faithful to the sonic signature that has been the hallmark of the M50 series since 2007.

The proprietary 45mm drivers, dedicated internal amplifier and use of high-end audio-grade components, including an AK4331 audio DAC, deliver clarity throughout an extended frequency range including a deep and accurate bass. Moreover, a low-latency mode improves synchronicity between audio and video for smooth streaming and gaming. This mode is activated via the A-T Connect app which also gives access to EQ options, L/R volume balance, voice assistant selection, locating misplaced headphones, changing LDAC and AAC codecs and more.

For hands on control, buttons built into the earcup provide wearers easy control of volume/mute, music, calls, and access to Amazon Alexa Built-in, Google Assistant and Siri voice assistants.

Making clear calls is aided by dual mics and beamforming technology, while sidetone circuitry improves conversations by letting the wearer hear their voice in the headphones when making calls on most smartphones.

Pairing with Android devices using Google Fast Pair is fast and easy and Multipoint pairing function allows listeners to stay connected to two Bluetooth devices at once.

There’s up to 50 hours of continuous use on a single, full charge and a 10 minute boost via the USB-C charging connection will grant another 3 hours of playback. With long listening sessions available, comfort and durability are important and the ATH-M50xBT2 / ATH-M50xBT2MO feature professional grade earpad and headband materials while the over ear design also provides passive sound isolation in loud environments.

The Audio-Technica ATH-M50xBT2MO wireless, over-ear headphone in Lantern Glow will be available from 13th October 2021 at www.audio-technica.com, RRP £189.99/ €219 and includes a 1.2m cable for optional wired use.
