Audio-Technica launches ATH-SQ1TW true wireless earphones

A square deal

by Andy Bassett

With a strikingly square design, Audio-Technica’s latest ATH-SQ1TW true wireless headphones come in a range of colour combinations and provide an audio option for a number of lifestyles.

The potpourri of colours - Blueberry, Caramel, Popsicle, Cupcake, Black, and White - may be eye catching but there’s also plenty of ear enhancing features in the SQ1TW earphones too.

There’s a clear, powerful sound courtesy of the exclusive dynamic 5.8mm drivers which have an impedance of 16 ohms and are the result of Audio-Technica’s sonic expertise, along with a Low Latency mode that ensures minimal delay and perfect sync, whether the listener is enjoying music, games, or movies.

The lightweight earbuds are only 5.2g each and the squared off design is comfortable for many different ear shapes, making them suitable for virtually all users. The compact body remains unobtrusive and prevents the buds from dislodging during long sessions.

The buds themselves automatically power on when they are removed from the included charging case so are ready to go in a flash and, similarly, they self power down and commence charging when returned to the case.

Touch sensor controls built into the earbuds allow users to control music transport, volume and call management without resorting to their smartphones and there’s a flexible option to use just one or both buds depending upon the usage environment.

A built-in microphone captures ambient sounds to feed a Hear-through function that allows users to remain aware of their surroundings and the Sidetone feature also uses the mic to provide users with realistic communication audio with their own voice and environmental sounds as part of the call, providing natural call audio, just like a regular conversation.

Google Fast Pair allows quick, one-touch pairing with a single Android device and the IPX4 splash proof rating means you’re good to go in the gym or outside in a rain shower.

The ATH-SQ1TW’s battery life is up to 6.5 hours which is accompanied by an additional two charges from the case to give 19.5 hours in total. A quick 15 minute charge will be enough for an hour’s worth of playback too if you are in a rush.
