Swedish audio specialist Audio Pro has introduced its newest subwoofer - the SW-5. A smaller sibling to last year’s SW-10 model that still packs plenty of low-end wallop.
Launched with under the ethos of the Swedish concept of ‘Lagom’, meaning ‘just right’ or ‘bang on’ as one might say in colloquial English, the SW-5 subwoofer is the more demure sibling of Audio Pro’s most powerful subwoofer, the SW-10, which was released in July 2020. Moreover, the company reckons it’s successfully achieved ‘Lagom’ with the SW-5’s appearance and sound.
The SW-5 uses an 8-inch long throw driver in conjunction with a 150W digital class D amplifier and delivers a frequency range of 35-130Hz from its compact 275 x 275 x 290mm stature. It’s been designed to supersede the company’s affordable Addon SUB model and its small, efficient form supports the likes of the C5 and C10 speakers perfectly, alongside alternative speakers with a sub output.
Getting the balance between space saving and the ‘right amount’ of sound was the ultimate aim of the designers as Audio Pro chief commercial officer Jens Henriksen explains, “We see it as the ultimate subwoofer for those looking for excellent value for money and a small speaker with remarkable audio, meaning the SW-5 is ‘just right’ in every sense.”
Over Audio Pro’s four decade history, the company has designed and produced small but powerful subwoofers that have laid the foundation for its more modern designs, including the fondly remembered B2.50 which dates back to the 1970s and still inspires product development on today’s models as the company evolves its speakers to meet changing needs.
The SW-5 has a particular role in that, for customers looking for a simple sub, it offers no-nonsense functionality in a small footprint but still ‘performs at at a much higher level than your average subwoofer’, according to Henriksen.
Audio Pro’s SW-5 subwoofer will be available at audiopro.com, retailing for £270.
