Audio Pro announces SW-10 compact subwoofer

Meeting expectations...

by Andy Bassett

Coming at the end of July, Swedish Hi-Fi company Audio Pro will be releasing the SW-10, a compact, aesthetically interesting subwoofer.

With a more recent line up that features Bluetooth and wireless multiroom speakers, the just unveiled active SW-10 subwoofer is an echo back to the company’s roots as a subwoofer manufacturer. At the start of its 42 year history, Audio Pro made a name for itself with its ACE-Bass technology which helped make early models such as the Audio Pro B2.50 and B4.200 a hit back in the day.

Now, the SW-10 will have the requirements of a modern audio enthusiast to live up to and Jens Henriksen, CCO at Audio Pro, knows expectations are high. “When we tell our audience that we plan to launch a new sub, they still have, impressively enough, these classic models in the back of their minds. Of course we feel the pressure, but at the same time we feel that we are able to comfortably exceed these expectations.

The SW-10 subwoofer is announced  with the aim of being the perfect pairing for the company's previously launched multiroom A26 and A36 speakers and also delivers the same high standard of audio when used with a traditional Hi-Fi system. However, it can also be used as a component of a home cinema setup through the uses of its customised input options.

It’s not necessarily straight forward designing a subwoofer to function seamlessly in both the Hi-Fi and home cinema arenas. Henriksen explains, “It may seem simple, but it places completely different demands on components such as chips, inputs and more.”

The SW-10 features an eye-catching design that differs from more traditional subwoofers in that its passive radiators are exposed and visible on the sides thus breaking up the smooth and untextured surface. Test audiences agreed that this approach added to the visual appeal.

The SW-10 will be available in black and white from the end of July though no UK pricing has been announced yet.
