Amazon UK starts taking 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray preorders

It's about time!

  • We were promised 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in Europe by mid-spring and it looks as though the BDA has kept that promise.
Panasonic had already announced that their DMP-UB900 Ultra HD Blu-ray player will arrive in mid-April at a price of £599 and Samsung plan to launch their UBD-K8500 player at the start of April, although the exact price isn't known yet. Now retail sites like Amazon have begun taking pre-orders for the first wave of Twentieth Century Fox Ultra HD Blu-rays. The initial releases are Life of Pi, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Fantastic Four, Hitman: Agent 47, The Maze Runner, Mazer Runner: The Scorch Trials and Exodus: Gods and Kings. All these titles will be available on the 11th of April at a price of £19.99, which should make everyone happy. Let's hope the other studios can match that price point, although there appears to be quite a disparity in terms of Ultra HD Blu-ray pricing in the US, so don't expect all new releases to be quite so cheap.
