Best Prime Day Speaker Deals

Polk Audio Speakers

There hasn’t been much in the way of big-name speaker manufacturers, partly because many of them don’t routinely use Amazon. However, one company that is getting involved is Polk Audio, which is offering up a full roster of discounted separates from its Dolby Atmos and DTS:X-compatible Monitor XT range that might plug a gap or three in your audio set-up.

Scaling upwards in name order, the series starts with the MXT12, which is a 12-inch active subwoofer with a 100W Class AB amplifier. It doesn’t seem limited to the Prime Day discounts (or Prime members at all), so should be open to all, and is listed here for convenience even if it doesn’t strictly belong!

Polk Audio MXT12 subwoofer: £288.55, now £227 (21% off, save £51.55)

More clearly targeted as Prime Day deals, members can then take their pick from the MXT15 and MXT20 bookshelf speakers. These flexible speakers come with Terylene dome tweeters, with one notable difference being the larger 6.5-inch woofer in the MXT20.

Polk Audio MXT15 bookshelf speaker: £149, now £111 (26% off, save £38)

Polk Audio MXT20 bookshelf speaker: £249, now £168 (33% off, save £81)

Technically you do also have your choice of centre channels, although the MXT30 centre isn’t discounted as part of the Prime Day deals. The MXT35 most certainly is, though, with 20% off this five-driver array delivering loud and clear dialogue with up to 200W output.

Polk Audio MXT35 centre speaker: £199, now £160 (20% off, save £39)

Getting somewhat taller, there’s the MXT60 and MXT70 floor-standing towers, where, as with the bookshelf models, the latter has a larger woofer delivering up to up to 200W. The final piece of the puzzle is the MXT90 height channel surrounds, which come bundled in pairs.

Polk Audio MXT60 tower speaker: £175, now £140 (20% off, save £35)

Polk Audio MXT70 tower speaker: £250, now £181 (28% off, save £69)

Polk Audio MXT90 surround speakers: £176.36, now £142 (19% off, save £34.36)

Bang & Olufsen Speakers

Adding some rather more portable speaker options to your potential Prime Day savings, there are several Bang & Olufsen products that might be tempting. The BeoSound Explore wireless speakers that launched just over a year ago see a 26% drop in some finishes (be aware that some are still at their original price). The Explore uses two 30W Class D amplifiers with dual 1.8-inch full range drivers and deliver ‘True360’ sound for an immersive audio performance – and a very healthy 27-hour battery life.

Bang & Olufsen BeoSound Explore: £169, now £124.99 (26% off, save £44.01)

Also on offer are the 2nd Generation BeoSound A1 wireless Bluetooth speaker, that has a peak power of 2x 140W along with aptX Adaptive, and also provides Alexa voice control and up to 18 hours playback.

Bang & Olufsen BeoSound A1: £239, now £169 (29% off, save £69.01)

You can also find the somewhat chunkier but no less stylish Beolit 20 speaker at a potentially tempting 36% discount, down to £319.99. This wireless Bluetooth portable unit also offers True360 Sound, with four active drivers and two passive bass radiators, powered by dual Class D amplifiers pushing up to 240W. It can deliver 8 hours of audio, but is USB-C friendly and also comes with Qi-charging to connect with other devices, as well as other Beolit speakers for a stereo set-up.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

It was originally created as a one-off event to celebrate Amazon’s 20th anniversary in 2015, but has since become an annual window for cut-price online deals, offering up to 50% off leading brands (and sometimes more). Think Black Friday but without the risk of being rugby tackled by strangers in your local shopping centre while trying to grab a cheap TV or laptop.

Since 2019, it has grown into the two-day event that is being continued this year, offering a wealth of sizeable discounts across its whole portfolio of products for Amazon Prime members. Last year was its biggest year to date, with more than two million items on offer, and 2022 is set to be no different. This year it’s taking place in 20 countries, with Poland and Sweden included for the first time, with events in India, Saudi Arabia, UAE and, also joining for the first time, Egypt, taking place later in the year.

You can find out all of the details on the Amazon Prime Day front page.

Amazon Prime Day 2022: 12-13 July

When is Amazon Prime Day?

After a Covid-affected shift to October in 2020, and a lesser deviation into June last year (partly to avoid clashing with the Olympics and other transportation issues), Amazon Prime Day is back in its traditional July window for 2022. This year’s event runs from midnight on 12 July to 11.59pm on 13 July (GMT) – giving you 48 hours to either snap up some great bargains, or perhaps do your best to avoid a temptation you can ill afford.

As you may have noticed, the discounts aren’t limited to just this two-day Amazon Prime Day window. Deals have been appearing on the site since 21 June involving many big-name brands, and Amazon itself has said it will be offering discounts on its own products from 08 July (with its Echo devices coming with six months free Amazon Music Unlimited). It’s a common practice, not unlike what we see at shows such CES, where many companies will announce products in advance, so they don’t get lost among the flood rolling out during the event itself – so bargain hunters might want to check in both before and after the 12-13 July Amazon Prime Day window to keep tabs on this ever-evolving array of cut-price deals.

The rumours are that Amazon is also planning a similar secondary event in the autumn (possibly for October), so if you need to pass up some good deals this time around, there might be a handy pre-Christmas window to start saving up for in a few months time.

Amazon Prime Day 2022: 12-13 July
Amazon has been running 'Early Access' discounts since 21 June, to stretch Prime Day out to three weeks!

Is Amazon Prime Day only open to Prime members?

The short answer is yes, it exclusive to Prime members, although that’s not to say that companies won’t be extending some offers into its non-Prime listings. In the UK, the typical Prime membership is £7.99 a month (discounted to £79 a year if you can pay up-front), which might seem like a small price to pay if you can save yourself even a small percentage on a new TV, notebook, or headphones. Amazon even offers a free 30-day trial, which could make this as good a time as any to try it out – and maybe check out the broader range of perks that come with signing up.

Away from Amazon Prime Day, there are plenty of deals and discounts on offer throughout the year, so you should be able to find plenty of opportunities to get your money’s worth from a membership at just about any time. Plus, you’ll find regular deals or partnerships appearing across other third-party sites and products (current examples include free ‘Deliveroo Plus’ deliveries for a year and a 30-day trial for Audible).

Amazon Prime Day 2022: 12-13 July
Extended 'free' trials to the likes of Kindle Unlimited, Audible, and Amazon Music Unlimited can also be put to very good use.

There are plenty of other benefits to add further value as well, with the original perk for Prime members being free delivery on Amazon purchases, with unlimited one-day deliveries and options for same-day and even two-hour delivery windows, making it a no-brainer for regular customers and business users (and this has since expanded into grocery deliveries as well).

The introduction of Prime Video has since become another good reason for many to sign up, while others might appreciate the free e-books via Prime Reading, the PC-friendly videogames (with some console add-ons) found with Prime Gaming, while access to Amazon Music’s two million tracks is another welcome benefit of being a member – with broader unlimited access to some of these elements costing a little more each month.

What are the big Amazon Prime Day deals for 2022?

It’s hard to be definitive in advance of the event, as while some companies can plan things well in advance, there’s also a sense that others can be rather more reactive and use Amazon Prime Day to help shift some old stock as they’re replaced by new and improved models. Either way, this vast rush of heavily discounted products very much works in favour of the consumer, as retailers compete to make you an offer you can’t refuse.

Amazon Prime Day 2022: 12-13 July
Pre-Prime Day deals included a 50% discount for the 50-inch Samsung QN90A 4K Neo QLED TV.

As an example (which may be gone by the time you read this!), one of the few TVs getting a pre-Prime Day discount was the Samsung QN90A 4K Neo QLED, with the 50-inch 2021 model getting a 50% reduction down to £595 (from £1,199), and the 55-inch display cut to £799 (from £1,499). Samsung’s Galaxy Buds Live wireless earbuds also saw a sizeable saving, priced as low as £70.89 (down from an RRP of £179).

Amazon itself has announced that it will offering up to 60% discounts on some of its own devices, including the Echo Dot (3rd and 4th Gen), Echo Show 5 (2nd Gen), Fire TV Cube, Blink Cameras, Ring Home Security, and Fire 7 Kids Pro Tablets. The main savings start from 08 July, but even ahead of this you could find the likes of the 4th generation Echo Dot priced at £29, a 42% saving on its usual £49.99 RRP.

Amazon Prime Day 2022: 12-13 July
Amazon's 4th generation Echo Dot is one of many of the company's own products seeing a discount price.

Another factor of the site, which can be exaggerated over the course of Amazon Prime Day, are its ‘Lightning Deals’. As the name suggests, these are short-lived discounts, often offering the biggest price cuts but with a limited number of items to go around – so you might want to refresh the page a few times and be ready to move quickly!

Some of the more general Prime Day offers for members include three months of free access to Kindle Unlimited, a four-month trial upgrade to Amazon Music Unlimited (up from the standard one month for new users), and three months of Audible for free – though bear in mind these will automatically renew at a monthly cost, so be sure to cancel anything you no longer want. Gamers might also want to pay attention…

Get 30+ Free Games

As part of its Prime Gaming wing, Amazon is adding some big names to a list of some 30+ free games up to and during the Prime Day event. Some of the more ‘indie’ titles are already up on the site as part of a larger-than-usual July line-up, and from 12 July you’ll find the likes of the Mass Effect Legendary Edition (containing the original trilogy), Need for Speed Heat, GRID Legends, a couple of Star Wars: Jedi Knight titles, and Star Wars Republic Commando added to the list.

Amazon Prime Day 2022: 12-13 July
As well as the headline titles appearing on Prime Day, you'll find loads of free indie games throughout the month.

Amazon also has a deal in place for some exclusive NBA 2K22 content, with more in-game add-ons for the likes of Fall Guys, World of Warcraft, Pokémon Go, and The Elder Scrolls Online appearing in the run up to Amazon Prime Day, along with discounts on the Rockstar Games' multiplayer titles GTA Online and Red Dead Online.

We should note that the full titles are usually for Windows PCs, and accessible via the Amazon Games app (which you’ll be steered towards once you click on your first title), or occasionally a publisher own’s platform, such as Ubisoft Connect. If you’re happier on consoles or don’t have a decent PC capable of running some of the bigger games, then this might not be entirely applicable, but there’s usually a few things of interest around, including a monthly Twitch channel subscription (to get ‘free’ subscriber perks from your favourite streamer) and some more widely compatible in-game additions.

Of course, games across all platforms will likely feature as part of the wider Prime Day discounts, so even if you can’t get them for free, there should still be some great gaming deals around! For example, Electronic Arts was offering plenty of discounts, with as much as 80% off varying titles ahead of the event, including a digital download of FIFA 22 for the Xbox Series X at £20.99 for a limited period (down to £9.99 on PC the day after) – so keep an eye out for more of the same!

This same principle can be applied across all areas, from TV and Home Cinema, through to computing, lifestyle, and even grocery shopping or anything else you might have an eye on. So if you're looking for a bargain, you might want to check in or refresh the page every so often, as new listings and fresh lightning deals could pop up at any time - so don't assume you've seen everything if you run a search on the first morning.

And there'll be plenty of other non AV tech on offer, including some promising current deals on smartphones, listed below:

If you spot any standout deals, feel free to share them in the forums. Or perhaps you can suggest some rough parameters for a new addition to your set-up you might be on the lookout for and let the community be your eyes and ears to guide you towards some possible options. It's set to be a pretty hectic couple of days, and you don't want to miss out, so good luck!
