Acoustic Energy announces AE308 subwoofer
The 300 series of speakers includes the AE300 stand-mounts, the AE309 floorstanders and the AE307 Centre speaker, and now the recently announced AE308 subwoofer adds the solid foundation upon which everything else rests.
Designed to integrate, complete and complement the 300 series of speakers for both home cinema and Hi-Fi performance, the AE308 subwoofer utilizes a new 500 watt (RMS) amplifier paired with a 12-inch long-excursion doped and stiffened pulp-fibre driver.

Control over the AE308 performance comes courtesy of a brand new Digital Signal Processor (DSP) module that has been created to improve low frequency control and reduce distortion. The DSP employs three modes, Music, Movie and Impact, to tailor the subwoofer’s performance depending upon which particular application is being employed.

In Music mode, performance is balanced and accurate to complement the audio and the low frequencies extend naturally down to 26Hz (+/-6dB). In Movie mode, what Acoustic Energy describes as ‘additional slam’ is added to the mix to help pull out the explosive elements in movie soundtracks. Finally, annoy neighbours with a late night party where Impact Mode forgoes any subtlety and maximum volume is the name of the game.

In keeping with the other models in the series, a range of finishes is available - real wood veneer, piano gloss black and white lacquer. The 16.5kg cabinet rests on sturdy carpet-piercing spikes which can be covered with rubber caps if the listener’s decor runs to hardwood flooring.

Acoustic Energy MD, Mat Spandl explained. “Rather than just launch a sub to complement our already successful 300 Series, we wanted to design a sub with substance! and one which could hold its own in any system as well as do justice to the rest of the 300 Series speakers." He added, "This sub has been long awaited from our dealers and distributors around the globe and now it’s available, it’s been well worth the wait.”
