DVD players offer good quality standard definition movies to be played in your home cinema from DVD discs.

If you own a HD TV some DVD players will even upscale the DVD picture to match the resolution of your screen.

Players do differ in DVD upscaling performance, features (some which interfere with picture settings) and build quality.

Most DVD players can play DVD Discs and CDs with some offering to playback digital files like Divx and Mpeg4 or even other disc based formats like SACD and DVD-A.

DVD players have been replaced by High Definition Blu-ray Players which also play DVDs.

Popular manufacturers include Pioneer, Denon, Sony, Panasonic, Oppo, Samsung and LG
