There's no doubting the build and specification of Astell & Kern's flagship A&ultima SP3000 DAP - the South Korean specialist has gone to town, come back, and then gone even further back into town - but can it justify the asking price?  

The M11S digital audio player is one of FiiO's more affordable devices and represents the company's latest attempt to establish itself as the obvious alternative to this product category’s overlord: Astell & Kern. How does it get on with this ambition?  

Its new flagship music player comes with a stainless steel chassis and independent Dual Audio Circuitry, along with the new IEM collaboration with Empire Ears.  

This latest addition to the interchangeable series comes with Digital Audio Remaster upsampling for a richer sonic performance.  

The SE180 takes an idea that Astell & Kern has shown before and refines it further while adding some more new toys. Does this make it a portable player you can’t live without?
