Hi there,

From my research (and also in this forum is mentioned!), for the budget I have (around GBP 350) my best bet would be panny nv gs320 or
the sony HC96.

However, I am tempted to consider DVD camcorders. From camcorderinfo, a good one is the Sony HDR-UX7, but this is above my budget

My main thought here is that if camcorder records straight on DVD, I wont need to stay transfering miniDV to pc and then burn to DVDs etc

Can you please tell me what's your thoughts about DVD instead of MiniDV?

Thanks
Stefan

Have you heard the expression two legs good, four legs bad?

IMHO DVD cams are four legs. Some might argue. ;)

For the budget you have, I do not believe that you will get any other SD camcorder better than the HC96 or the GS320. When introduced the HC96 was what, £600? Maybe more.

Any Sony cam starting HDR is a hi-def (HD) camcorder.

Have a read.
and see what you think your self:)

...and dont forget there are HDD camcorders ( and flash card models as well)

As for the Sony model which records Hi definition to a DVD disc, Im not too sure wht the point is there since you cannot play back the disc anywhere ( even a PS3) unless you have h.264 decoding software on your PC and play the AVC files off the disc. The PS3 doesnt take the smaller sized discs
Dont forget too that whether with a Tape model or HDD model you can record direct to DVD through a settop recorder especially if editing is not really desirable

Thanks!

I think I understand better now :)

Guess I'll stick to Mini DV :)

Cheers
Stefan
