Good Afternoon, Folks,

I hope everybody is well, despite the darker mornings, the cooler weather, and the promise of one of the worst British Winters due this year! As some of you may be aware, I amno longer able to commit to weekly TV updates. As such, I will now produce a monthly update instead, and then add to it, as-and-when, new details become available. This purely because I was spending about 10 hours a month, doing the updates, and with my degree course at Uni, I don't have that much time to devote, I'm afraid. :( So, as of today, you will get monthly updates, and information will constantly get added to. Therefore, I would highly recommend that you subscribe to this thread, or else, return to it on a regular basis. That way, you shouldn't miss out on what's hot and what's not, on UK television!

Right, let's get started...! :smashin:

Freeview News
At the end of October 2005, Sky's Travel Channel will cease, and be replaced with Sky 3 instead. Sky 3 is a free-to-air channel, and will show repeats of old Sky shows, like "24" (Season 3), "Nip/Tuck" (Seasons 1 and 2), and older US cult shows too. Some travel shows will also remain in the schedules.

Sky Mix will be rebranded back to what it was formally known as - which is "Sky 2"! Those of you with long memories, will remember that Sky 2 wasn't actually much cop, but this time around, only the name will change. The channel will remain more-or-less the same as it currently is.

In order to get the new channels mentioned, you may need to reset your set-top-box, or do an "Add Channels" check.

Satellite News
As per above, except that Sky 3 will be added as a seperate channel, and will NOT be replacing the Sky Travel Channel!

ITV4 will replace "Men And Motors", as of November 1st! Thankfully, there are some really good reasons to tune-in. The channel, is aimed at adult males, between 25-50 years of age, but don't expect soft porn, or adult material. ITV4 are aiming at intelligent viewers, who desire intelligent dramas, the best of ITV's documentaries, and provocative British shows. At the moment, shows due to air in November, include:
- Kojak (the all-new US remake, with Ving Rhames)
- Vengeance Unlimited (a superbly dark revenge drama, with Michael Madsen, with all the episodes being aired at a decent timeslot, unlike when Channel 4 originally aired it!)
- Traffic: The Mini-Series (a gritty two-part drama, loosely based on both the UK TV series, and the US movie, about the drug trafficking problems that have developed between the US/Mexican border, and the flow of drugs from Thailand, Pakistan and surrounding areas)
- Invasion Iowa (an all-new comedy/reality show spoof, from William Shatner. The show only lasted 4 episodes, but it was supposed to be very, very funny indeed!)

Starting this month, we also have some new Sci-Fi shows starting, including the UK premieres of:
- "Invasion" (starring Alexis Dziena, Evan Peters, Ariel Gade, Eddie Cibrian, Tyler Labine, William Fichtner, Kari Matchett and Lisa Sheridan)
- "Supernatural" (starrring Jared Padalecki)
Othe US imports, also starting in November, on various channels, include:
- "Prison Break"
- "Veronica Mars" (Season 1, on LivingTV)
- "Threshold" (with Carla Gugino and Brent Spiner)
- "House MD" (Season 2 - Hallmark has tentatively scheduled this, but details are still not yet officially confirmed!)
- "The OC" (Season 3 on E4)
- "Rescue Me" (Season 2 on Sky 1)
- "The Wire" (Season 3 on FX270, but may get pushed back to the New Year)
- "Sue Thomas: F-B-Eye" (Season 3 - The final season, as the show's now ended forever in the USA, on Hallmark!)
- "Boston Legal" - (the final few episodes of Season 1 should start on LivingTV!)

As you can see there will be plenty of stuff to keep you all occupied! And, last of all, if you haven't already heard, then HBO and the BBC have co-produced an excellent new mini-series, entitled "Rome"! It's supposedly controversial, with plenty of violence, gore, sex and nudity, and is likely to be the cause of many a complaint to Ofcom, when it starts to air on BBC2 in November! At the moment, the show has been Officially Confirmed as starting on Wednesday 2nd November 2005, at 9pm! The show will appear in the exact same format and duration, that were originally shown in the USA, except that the show will not be the Hi-Def version. More details can be found here!

And that concludes this update... for now! I'll be back soon, with more news! :hiya:

Hi,

More news for Sky users! With all the problems over the recent software upgrade for the EPG, etc, I've had a telephone call from the BBC's Watchdog programme!

From the sound of things, the problem should be being highlighted in their next show or the one after that (that's Monday 24th or 31st October)! Keep your eyes peeled please! :smashin: The show airs at 7pm, although please double-check in case the show has been moved at the last minute, which has been happening recently! :lesson: Thanks! :)

More news:
The Baby Channel has launched on Sky. The free-to-air channel, aimed at pregnant women, expectant fathers and parents of pre-school children aged 0-4 years old, broadcasts daily between 6am and 8pm and can be found on the EPG at channel 285.

Lastly, a new Movie channel will be launching in February 2006! Provisionally titled 'Inside Movies', the station will aim to push current and forthcoming cinema releases. Content includes listings, sneak previews, behind-the-scenes footage, promotions and special offers. An interactive service is also planned.

Could be interesting!

Finally Watchdog have picked up on this Sky fiasco.

I've suffered for the last 2 months cos of this.

Hi All,

Dave - No details yet as to exactly when "Boston Legal" will restart yet, but as soon as I find anything, you will find the info posted in this thread.

Everyone - More excellent news folks, as follows:

Bravo - "Seven Days" - the sci-fi show with Jonathan LaPaglia looks like it's getting a complete 3 season run, uncut and uncensored, in November, as it's going out at the ungodly hour of 1:30am, every night of the week!

FX270 - Fans of Batman and Robin will enjoy a chance to see the classic 1960's camp TV series, with Burt Ward and Adam West again, as FX air the entire show from beginning to end, with 2 episodes per day (technically, one whole story, as each story was shown in two 30-minute episodes), and witha same day repeat!

Hallmark - Wil be airing the first series of the recent BBC thriller/drama "Hustle", in November.

Sci-Fi Channel - Some really superb news! :smashin:
- "Odyssey 5" the adult sci-fi drama gets its first complete run, after Sky One's previously bothched attempt! Highly recommended, if you like more intelligent fare!
- Also, the six-part UK vampire drama "Ultraviolet" gets another repeat.
- "La Femme Nikita", the cult Australian/Canadian spy drama, that was shunted all over the schedules on Five, now gets a daily run, through all 4 seasons, at 7pm, with a next weekday repeat, at 1pm!
- The five "Alien Nation" TV movies are also repeated, in their correct order.
- "Veritas: The Quest" also gets another transmission!

Looks like Sci-Fi really are starting to improve on some of their recent schedules, by getting a couple of real gems their!

Hi,

Firstly, the bad news:

Channel 4 have :censored:-up again! They no longer own the rights to air "The West Wing" Season 5, and as such, have decided to permanently pull this excellent and ultra-intelligent US drama from their terrestrial schedules! :nono:  :nono:  (If you have access to More4, then you'll be okay!) Their excuse? "The show doesn't get enough viewers, despite C4 trying the show in different time slots." As such, Terrestrial TV fans of this show, will now be forced to purchase, rent or illegally obtain future episodes instead of seeing it on TV. One word sums these useless Channel 4 animals up - but I can't even hint at it, on this family website! (News confirmed in the new edition of the "Radio Times"!)

Hi All,

Just to let everyone know, I will have a new November 2005 update for you all, in this very thread, later this week, once I've had a chance to write it up. :)

There's tons for you lot to watch this month! Especially if you're a US drama fan, or a retro British TV fanatic!

Hi Pooch

Thanks as always for taking the time to do this for us.

Do you know if C4/E4 or More4 have the rights to West Wing series 1-4? If so they should damned well show them and perhaps keep it in a regular sensible slot so it can build an audience base again.

I lost touch when C4 started showing series 4 at about 7pm, when my kids were still up and before I could consult the TV guide. After missing about 6 of the first 8 episodes I gave up and wrote C4 a sharp email.

Regards

Mark

firstly Channel 4 are a bunch of :censored: ! Unfortunately I was also following the West Wing at terrestrial pace and now I'm a season behind b :censored: .

Broken news - I think I saw a trailer for this but wasn't paying close attention. I also think I saw Claudia Christian who played Susan Ivanova in Babylon 5.

As far as I know the only cuts in Star Wars Episode Two is a head butt or two.

I hope I remember Fact Hunt is on I really loved Time Gentlemen Please, surely this classic British comedy is deserving of a DVD release :smashin:

Details were given to me by various media contacts I have, who help me, when I need them too. However, such details may change, as I'm sure you are only too patently aware.

Hi People,

Okay, as most of you should know by now, it seems that despite previous reports, both Sky 3 and ITV4 are BOTH available to everyone, irrespective of whether you subscribe to a Sky Digital package or not. (I don't subscribe, and I can get both channels!)

Now, officially, ITV4 will not appear on Sky until 7th November, but if you Manually Tune in the channel, (See here! ), you can actually receive all the ITV4 output anyway! From the 7th, the channel will be on Sky 120 I believe.

With that out of the way, here's my update. The following shows will be starting on TV this week or early next week!

Also, where noted, some shows will air once a week, with no repeat showings. Please be aware of this!

"Invasion Iowa" also starts on ITV4 this week, but only lasts for a measly 4 episodes. And "Traffic: The New Mini-Series" starts next week on ITv4 also, airing as three 110-minute movie-length episodes. This is the same completely uncut, widescreen version, that was originally shown in the USA, and is already out on UK DVD.

I'll be back with more updates and TV news, soon! :) Happy TV Viewing!

Hi,

Some excellent news and new channel information for all of you, so here goes!

Rapture TV is due to restart on Sky, from Monday 14th November. Their website here has a small amount of information, but the best news (in my opinion) is that there will be movies being shown, and at least two 30-minute all-new-to-the-UK anime series being aired too!

All 4 of the ITV channels are now completely free-to-air on Sky Digital, or at least, they should be! Also, ITV4 is now on EPG number 120 as of Midday today!

From early in 2006, the UK version of the Hallmark Channel, is all geared-up to launch a second Hallmark Channel for fans of their output. At the moment, there are no details as to what it will be airing, but it will NOT be a simple "+1" channel.

Sky Digital viewers, may wish to have a bit of fun, by doing an Add Channels selection, with the following info:
Frequency: 10,921
Width: Horizontal
SR: 22.0
FEC: 5/6
Look for a channel labelled either "5021" or "Black Level" (or a variation on these two titles), and you should find that this channel has been showing part of a signed movie with no audio. Having not yet tried this myself, I have no idea why this movie is being shown, or for what channel it might be for! Enjoy! :D

At some point, early in 2006, the following two channels are due to launch: "DownUnder TV" and "World Cinema Channel". The names should give you a clue as to their output, and think that both should be very worthwhile additions to Sky's current EPG line-up.

Also, due to launch in the next 3 months or so, will be: "Playgirl TV" (which will deal with erotica and adult material of naked men, specifically for women audiences); "Animatrix" (which may deal with adult animated material) and "Pink TV" (which will have some adult content, but will deal with adult-themed shows as well, like "Sex And The City", "Queer As Folk", etc, etc).

Despite promises, the renumbering and regrouping of all the Sky Channels will now NOT be going-ahead this year! In fact, the delay has been put back to mid-January 2006 at the earliest! The reason: because there's a fault in the EPG software! Well, at least Sky spotted this, before they rolled it out, unlike the last EPG upgrade!

That's all for the moment! More news, as-and-when I can!

Hi Pooch,

Great updates as ever. I was so glad you mentioned "The Shining", my favourite creepy movie ever, just typing the words gives me goose bumps. I recorded it (the Sky+ was working for once) and really enjoyed seeing it interrupted. When we've watched it before we have always had interruptions, friends dropping in, or having to go out. To watch it quietly on a dark evening was so perfect. I would have missed it without your lists.

So many wonderful programmes available this winter. Disappointing about NYPD. This new ITV4 is excellent. I was so surprised that it was this good, much needed amongst some of the trashy evening offerings. Many thanks for all your posts, giving us the latest info to brighten our lives, much appreciated.

HI,

Some TV News for you all.... in no particular order of preference!

1) "Playboy TV" has launched a new free-to-air offering on digital satellite this morning. The channel, known as Playboy One, will broadcast a promo for much of the morning and afternoon. Playboy Store will begin at 7:30pm featuring a range of games and gadgets followed by adult related entertainment content from 11pm until 5:30am. Playboy One can be found in the entertainment section on Sky EPG number 287.

2) OFCOM have been sending out the same bog-standard reply regarding "More 4" and how how it was originally advertised and promoted as being a Free-To-Air TV channel available to all Sky viewers (irrespective of whether or not you were a Sky subscriber), but have stated that:
- More 4 did not advertise itself as being available as a "Free To Air" channel
- That Channel 4 did not break any advertisement regulations
- It's up to Sky whether or not More 4 can be aired unencrypted, and
- That OFCOM are not going to investigate this issue further.

More details can be found here!

3) "Rapture TV" starts today - 14th November - on Sky on EPG channel slot 288. Their limited-access website can be accessed here! However, the best news - I think - is that Rapture have secured the UK rights to air two brand new Japanese animation series. The first is "Full Metal Alchemist", and the second is "Wolf's Rein". "FMA" will air on Tuesdays at 8:30pm, and "WR" will be on Thursdays 8:30pm. Each show, will then be given a weekly repeat, in a single, one-hour block, on Sundays between 8-9pm! These will be dubbed-English versions. At the moment the channel is on Sky only!

could be good if they could actually show proper hardcore sex instead of watered down soft porn
