Panasonic launch DX802, DX750 and DX700 Ultra HD 4K HDR TVs
It was a strange feeling to be at Panasonic's annual European Convention having already reviewed their flagship TV.
The manufacturer was true to its word and, as promised at CES back in January, the DX902 is already available to buy in retailers. You can read our full review here but the convention did give us a chance to follow-up on some of our measurements and after a very recent firmware update the 58-inch model is delivering an input lag of 35ms and the 65-inch version was measuring a 38ms lag, which should please all you gamers out there. If you're thinking of buying the DX902 the TX-58DX902B is retails for a tempting price of £2,700, whilst the TX-65DX902B costs a very reasonable £3,200.

Panasonic also had their new DMP-UB900 Ultra HD Blu-ray Player on show which, like the DX902, they originally announced at CES. The UB900 has been designed by Panasonic to offer uncompromising video and audio quality and, again like the DX902, it has both THX and Premium UHD certification. The new player includes High Dynamic Range (HDR) and high-res audio support, along with dual HDMI outputs and audiophile components. The UB900 will be available from mid-April, costs £599 and comes with the Ultra HD Blu-ray discs of both Mad Max: Fury Road and San Andreas included.

In terms of Panasonic's new line-up the range is dominated by Ultra HD 4K TVs but there will also be two Full HD models for those looking for a smaller screen size, perhaps for a bedroom, kitchen or office. First of all there is the DS400, this Full HD TV includes 400Hz BMR (Backlight Motion Rate) and adaptive backlight dimming. There's also the My Home Screen smart platform with internal apps, in-house streaming, 'swipe and share' and Freetime. The TV has a black bezel with black feet, a silver strip along the bottom and it comes in a single screen size of 40-inches.

The other Full HD model is the DS500 which offers the same feature set as the DS400 including 400Hz BMR (Backlight Motion Rate) and adaptive backlight dimming. There's also the My Home Screen smart platform with internal apps, in-house streaming, 'swipe and share' and Freetime. This model also has a black bezel but there is a larger silver strip along the bottom and the TV sits on a more traditional black stand. The DS500 comes in 24-, 32-, 40-, 49- and 55-inch screen sizes.
The flagship DX902 is already in stores and the DMP-UB900 Ultra HD Blu-ray player arrives in mid-April.
Moving on to the Ultra HD 4K TV line-up, the entry range is the DX600 which uses edge LED lighting and comes in 40-, 49- and 55-inch screen sizes. The DX600 uses a 50Hz VA 8-bit panel with the exception of the 49-inch model, which uses an IPS panel. The tailored design features a dark metal bezel with a chrome stand. The stand itself is made up of a pedestal that can be used in one of two configurations, allowing you to fit the TV on a narrower surface. The DX600 also includes 800Hz BMR with IFC 4K and 4K Pure Direct. There is quad-core processing with Firefox, My Home Screen 2.0 and USB HDD recording. The TV also includes HEVC and VP9 decoding, along with Freeview Play. Along with DX600 there will also be the DX650 which will offer the same features but use a slightly different clear frame design and will be exclusive to an individual retailer.

The next Ultra HD 4K TV in Panasonic's new line-up is the DX700 which is the first to add HDR support. This range also uses edge LED lighting with 50Hz VA 8-bit panels and comes in 40-, 50- and 58-inch screen sizes. The DX700 includes 1400Hz BMR with IFC 4K and 4K Pure Direct. There is quad-core processing with Firefox, My Home Screen 2.0 and USB HDD recording; as well as HEVC and VP9 decoding and Freeview Play. There's also local dimming, a wider colour spectrum, advanced 4K colour processing and HDR support with a peak brightness of 350 nits. The DX700 uses a silver bezel and silver feet that can, with the exception of the 40-inch version, either be attached towards the edge or nearer the middle, allowing you to fit the TV on a narrower surface.

Then there is the DX750 which uses an edge LED backlight with a 100Hz VA 8-bit panel and 50-, 58- and 65-inch screen sizes. The DX750 includes 1800Hz BMR with IFC 4K and Studio Master HCX processing. There's Firefox, My Home Screen 2.0 and USB HDD recording with dual tuners, as well as HEVC and VP9 decoding, Freeview Play and 3D. There's also a Super Bright Panel with a wider colour spectrum, advanced 4K colour processing and HDR support with a peak brightness of 500 nits. The DX750 uses a silver finish and bezel and includes Panasonic's Switch Design. This adjustable chrome pedestal allows for four different configurations meaning you can either have feet at the edges or towards the middle or a larger or smaller circular stand.
The DX802 adds lifestyle design to picture quality whilst the DX750 combines performance, features and price.
Finally there is the DX802 which has been developed in conjunction with interior designers Cassina to create what Panasonic call their Art & Interior design. The result is a TV that uses a striking silver freestyle design that is intended to present the screen as if it were a piece of art. At the bottom there is a 12-train prismatic soundbar and this high quality speaker unit incorporates two tweeters, four mid-range drivers and six woofers. The DX802 uses a 100Hz VA 8-bit panel with edge LED lighting and comes in 50- and 58-inch screen sizes. The TV includes 2000Hz BMR and IFC 4K, as well as Studio Master HCX processing. There is THX 4K certification, along Control4's Simple Device Discovery Protocol (SDDP); as well as a super bright panel with a wider colour spectrum and support for HDR with a peak brightness of 500 nits. There's also Firefox, My Home Screen 2.0 and USB HDD recording with dual tuners, as well as HEVC and VP9 decoding, Freeview Play and 3D support. The DX802 will be available in May.

So if you're looking for uncompromising picture quality then the flagship DX902 is definitely the way to go but if you'd like something that offers many of the same features but with a more lifestyle design then there's also the DX802. The DX750 provides a winning combination of performance, design and price, whilst the DX700 offers consumers a chance to try HDR without breaking the bank. For those who simply want to buy an Ultra HD 4K TV there is the DX600 and if you just want a Full HD model for another room then the DS400 or DS500 should fit the bill nicely. If you're disappointed that Panasonic didn't announce a new OLED TV to replace the CZ952 we understand how you feel but we would also be very surprised if they didn't have another OLED TV in the pipeline. So overall it's a well thought out and focused line-up from Panasonic with a model to suit just every requirement and budget.
