update ps3 via usb stick????

    Can you update the ps3 from a usb stick? I dloaded the 270 file from ps3 site ,put it on the stick, put the stick in the ps3........it cant find any update files ?

    Anyone know.

    Yes you can.

    It needs to be in the correct directory structure though:

    PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP

    Create a folder on the stick - PS3 and then a sub folder inside that UPDATE (caps is essential) and put the file in there. On PS3, go up to System Update and choose the option to 'update from stick' (cant remember exact wording). Et voila:)

    Its a better way of doing it as well I found. The only thing that I hate is the delay between the availability to download via the PS3 and the web.

    Format the USB to FAT32 (using something like fat32format.exe) then create the above mentioned directory structure on it. Copy the PS3UPDAT.PUP file you have downloaded from the Playstation website in to the PS3\UPDATE folder. The go to System Update in the Settings section of the XMB and do the update (not via internet :)).
