I don't think the last video showed the speaker at their best. I think perhaps the overal volume was a bit too loud and that compromised the camera microphone. None the less, absolutely crisp clear speaker. It is amazing that all that sound come from the Uni-Q mid/high driver. Couldn't really tell on the bass, but I would expect it to be pretty good.

    But, £20,000/pr - YIKES!

They do look, well, fantastic is a understatement. Comments on first listening and finish would be nice.

    You missed out Garnet :D

I was toying between Garnet and Sapphire, and thought that if you're going to have a colour scheme in your living room, it'll more likely be a red than a blue, but decided on the Sapphire in the end :)

Garnet is top of the list I thought, so tempted to spend some serious money for another room which SWMBO is in charge of in the house but its not just serious money on a pair of speakers it another god knows how much on some serious kit to go with them. Gloss White I think all the way.

Looking forward to some pictures Dav1dF and possibly a very cross bank manager shortly.

My mistake! I looked at the colours, and on my iPad, which I have the brightness down quite low, the Garnet colour looked almost black, and I didn't look at the name of the colour... :)

I think many people assume that because certain speakers around the £5k mark need a mass of amplification to get the best from them, that speakers that are £20k need even more - not so. As an example, ProAc were demonstrating their Carbon 6's at the Manchester show with an integrated amplifier. Granted, I don't know what that integrated amplifier was, but I'm guessing it was no more than £5k, give or take a few £k. Using the K6's (a scaled down Carbon 6) in store, they were quite happy running off the Onkyo Reference pre/power, which is just over £4k. We've had the same pre/power happily running the KEF Reference 205's and 207's, and yes, while something more expensive would get more from them, the Onk didn't disgrace itself - in fact, I think it's an overlooked bargain.

Similarly, Onkyo brought in an upcoming product, an integrated amplifier based on that pre/power, which, as an exercise, we ran the 205's. You could tell the bass wasn't as under control as it should be, but for what is to be a projected £1.5k receiver (I reckon it'll be nearer £2k), it did a job that no other £1,500 amplifier is able to do. It's nearest competition would be the ATC SIA2-150, which is almost £1k more.

The Blades are a similar spec on paper to the 207's - highly efficient, so they don't have to have lorry loads of power to sound good (but it helps :)). The 207's ran really well with the Cyrus X300 monoblocks. Granted, they're £5k per pair, and you'd need a pre too - which would have to be the DACxp+ - but you can see an emerging pattern here - £5-7k for something like the Blades is enough to get them singing.

I've not totally decided what system I'll be running mine with yet, whether that will be Bryston, Cyrus, or another contender which will remain nameless at this stage, I don't know. But I do know that if all else fails, the Onkyo system, which is about £5.5k all in with a CD player, can do the job until I'm in a position to raise the stakes. I'll keep you posted.... :D
    • Thanks Thanks x 1

If I am going to outlay this sort of money for SWMBO mains room in our house, I am going to expect a personal install and set up and advice.

Whats the current lead time from point of order, is it known yet ?

With the first lot coming off the production lines at the moment, obviously things will be a little slow initially, and are taking about 5-6 weeks, but once things have settled down, it might be a little quicker. At almost 60kg each, I think most people will want them installed for them! :D

If I ever got the cash to get some of these they would have to be in red, just to please the wife :D

These beasts are simply stunning. :smashin:

It is weird how women don't choose standard black or white (although it makes sense - it's the more expensive option!). I asked the missus what colour she liked (purely an exploratory enquiry, of course :D), and I was surprised that she said that if she was going for something so expensive and unique, she'd go with something that stands out, like the sorbet colours!

The only thing I worried about ordering a colour was the re-sale value, but then, a speaker like this, should last a lifetime! :D

Yes I would agree a speaker for lifeime as that is why we are seriously considering placing an order and saving 40 years of upgrades and more outlay over that time period than now. Would also expect a pair to hold a reasonable resale value over and above the ref range in the future as there not going to be to many around in the market place unless a drastic price change in the future.

Exactly Alan. With such a revealing, advanced loudspeaker, the only reason you'll want to change them is if you get bored of them (!), or they blow up :D

It'll be a small Blade Owner's Thread on here, but we'll have plenty to talk about :D

Any info on what warranty comes with these ? Lifetime single owner would be great from new ! (cough cough hopes thoose at Kef are reading). The only reason SWMBO would want to change is decor change or house move and decor change, so thats why we are currently think Gloss White but keep changing our minds  it's worse than choosing what colour new car to have, Black for the Coupe and any thing for the family run around and in no way are these a family run around.

It's the same warranty as Reference for the Blades - 5 years. I might have a word in someone's ear and suggest 10 years...after all, once a speaker is working, there's very little that can go wrong without abuse :)

Oh, Alan, can you change the title so that Kef is all in capitals? Ta :)

Hmm, bit big for my room, but stunning non-the-less. The picture from the Lambo launch gives great perspective, thanks guys.
Are they your actual pair? Are they in your shop?

They are our actual pair and they are a custom colour made up for us in the Lamborghini 'Bianco Isis' finish to match the Lamborghini Avantador we are displaying them with at the moment.

They are at the Lamborghini Edinburgh showroom at the moment but will be back in the shop very soon.

Anyone wishing to book a demonstration, please call us at the store and we can make arrangements from there.

    Regards,

    Chris.

That is precisely what we are offering to all purchasers of Blades from us, a lifetime warranty for the original owner only.

    Cheers,

    Chris.

Blimey, that is excellent, I thought PMC's 20 year warranty was generous.

I'd love to hear these, has anyone on here actually got any feedback yet on how they sound?

What are they comparative to, looking at them with the side facing drivers they remind me of the Meridian DSP8000's.

Keep the pictures coming, these really are HiFi porn, simply stunning

Thanks, I will get some more pictures once our 'Grigio' demo pair arrive in the store. The custom finish 'Bianco Isis' pair will be at the Lamborghini showroom for a while longer so we are getting another demo pair in the 'Grigio' finish for our own showroom.

Should be here end of next week.

    Cheers,

    Chris.
