I'd like to see Klingons in the next one (and maybe some new Klingon ships), but I dont want it to be about Klingons or any other pre-established characters.

I hope they do something a bit more science-fictiony this time, like they did in Star Trek the Motion Picture but with a bit more energy. I'd like to see more in the way of exploration and new environments. If there is action in it, I'd like it to be of the big space battle variety. Skip the fistfights, skydiving and sword-fighting. Starship action is where it's at for me.

    Don't want much, do I ;)

Abrams confirms the sequel will shoot in 2D, and post converted to 3D, IMAX is a possibility.

Would be a bit of a coincidence if they went with Gary Mitchell as the recent Star Trek comics which continue the movie have re-told the story of the Enteprise trying to pass through the barrier that leads to his transformation.

The Talosians could be interesting though.

    Agreed.

I think it's IDW who are currently producing a comic with the new movie versions of the TOS characters, and using TOS storylines but with a twist.

I kinda like the idea of the parallel timeline since it still allows access to the original 40 years of Trek history, but with potential for new twists etc.

I enjoyed the first film but was disappointed that they'd pretty much wiped out nearly all the Trek history so they could reboot the franchise, but this approach has the potential to keep old and new happy.

I think they still have to go back and interact with Gary 7 though don't they? :)

Was this on purpose or did they want Downey? JJ said "Get me that Sherlock guy."

Filming on the sequel started yesterday, due for release on 17th May 2013.

Looks like the engine room is getting a make-over! which was actually a Budweiser plant in the 2009 film.

Spock getting to grips with Benedict Cumberbatch's character, on what is being called a "Space Barge set." Uhura with phaser up against same character.

While appearing at the landing of the Space Shuttle Enterprise in New York, Leonard Nimoy in a brief chat with a couple of CNN reporters dropped a hint that he might appear in the Star Trek sequel...

There was a guy talking about this on the radio this morning. He said it took him back to his childhood when they used to launch the shuttle from the back of a plane instead of the upright position.

Here is the CNN video of that Leanard Nimoy interview Raigraphix posted above:

he is such a legend and at 81 he's in great physical health. seems playing Spock has ensured he will certainly live long and prosper :)

Saw it on its European tour at Stansted in the early 80s ... the Enterprise was a prototype model (no engines and that cone stuck on the rear end) used for test landings off the plane it was piggybacking on
