Did you sell your x41's Paul , think I'm going to get the panny 310 purely because I don't use blu ray discs that often, can't really justify spending more than 150 quid

Fenwick in Newcastle had quite a few left with a 5 years warranty. You could try contacting them and asking if they will ship to your area.:)

Yes mate, I put the X41s on eBay and they were gone in less than 5 mins, so ordered the Deltas immediately after that. They come in a funky case, looks more like a lunch box, but looks funky all the same.

Putting the sound of the transport aside, its a great player. User interface could be better but there again, you only really need to set it up once.

Just had a word with Fenwick for you mate they have sold out.........but can get more in and they will ship to Cornwall. They will let me know the price of shipping tomorrow.
I will let you know then you can decide what you want to do.

If you can get one from Costco as Dejongj suggested they have an excellent warranty also.:)

If you haven't found anything yet or don't get anywhere with Fenwick, I might pop in the one in Coventry on Friday. I am in Coventry next week as well. Happy to take you in as a guest on my card, but you'd have to pay for it yourself :p Oh and I think it is debit cards only at Costco...

You do know that that is 4 years ago? And you must be deaf in order to not be bothered by the noise, like bluetooth remote controls (extra), and happy to apply constant stream of mandatory updates that will delay your viewing by at least half and hour unless you are lucky enough to have fast broadband delivered, or and be happy to listen to compressed/less audio format as the ps3 can't play the hd versions....I think that sums it pretty much up, why I happily get another player whilst I already have a PS3.

The Blu-ray specifications were finalised years ago, with the only change being the addition of 3D. The picture quality of the PS3 therefore is still the same quality that Joe Kane classed as Reference.

None of the other things you mention have any bearing on picture quality. The Firmware updates are only mandatory for connecting to the PSN, although one of them did introduce DTS HD audio for 3D Blu-ray.

    It's too noisy!
I'd go for a standalone for viewing Blu-rays any day.

I have a ps3 console and I use it as a blu-ray player and it's silent. It's one of the slim versions.

My PS3 slim isn't exactly silent but the fan noise is drowned out quite easily by my Kefs :)

Picture quality is great and HD sound is transmitted across on the HDMI cable. So to all intents and purposes it is a great 3D Bluray player.

DTS HD formats are output via HDMI. Dolby True HD still isn't.

All the more reason to get a standalone player then as the two best soundtracks I've heard are Batman TDK and Transformers 3. Both are Dolby TrueHD.

It doesn't output Dolby True HD in 3D mode, so The Dark Knight would be fine.

Fair enough. But Transformers 3 wouldn't be in Dolby TrueHD 7.1 sound in 3D and it's the one disc I would want to show my system off to visitors. ;)

My PS3 is only turned on to play video files such as MP4, DIVX etc. But now the Samsung plays most of them including FLV files so the my PS3 gets even less use.

Had to double check for a moment then, I thought my shortcut to Plasma TV's was linking me to the BD players section  :D

Talking about which....I was worried that I had a stuck pixel on my set. It seems to be that it was just on the Tron 3D disc, it definitively had me panicked for a moment :)

    Hi Tele

Do you keep all other settings as default then?

I'm also on 1019, have bumped up HDC to 128/73 but the picture still appears too dark during the daytime.

I'll try out your settings later, though I'm certain that I'll have to bump up cell light to 20 (for evening viewing too).

All daytime viewing is now in standard mode for me as Movie mode just seemed washed out (though it's nice in the evening).

All digital enhancements OFF, Cinema Smooth ON.:)

Standard Mode is different ball game as this calibrataion was done in Movie mode. But Standard will be OK for none critical Daytime viewing.

    Hi Gents

Can anyone help me with a problem i'm having with my 59D6900 before Comet take it apart unnecessarily?

It plays 3d blu rays fine through my PS3, no problem.
I bought a stand alone Yamaha Blu ray player - plays standard blu ray a treat but all 3d blu rays have green cast over the image?!?!

I have no idea why. I have tried the player on other 3d tv's with my connections - just to make sure it's all ok and it has played fine.

Comet came out last week to look at the set and said that it needs the board replacing (not that I have heard back from them as the customer service has been terrible - but that's a rant for another day!)

I just dont understand how the board can be damaged if it will play 3d from one source but not another?

I would imagine the issue lies with my Yamaha player but as it works fine on other tv's in 3D?

Anyone got any ideas? any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.
