Hi

I have had my Panasonic AE300 PJ for a week now (my first projector) and I'm very pleased with it.

Spent some time checking out all the features and the one that I can't work out at the moment relates to the S 4:3 and S:16:9 aspect ratio setting. I only seem to be able to use this very useful feature when playing region 1 discs. None of the region 2 discs that I've tried seem to allow this function.

I am using a US made Panasonic DVD player modified to play region 2 as well. Is that the problem? If the source of the picture is US/region 1 then does that mean I can only get S4:3 and S 16:9 for discs from that country.

Hope someone can help me.

(Great forum by the way - I've got lots of really helpful hints and tips in the last week.)

The 'S' settings bypass the scalar...

16:9 R1 NTSC 720x480 scaled to 960x540
S16:9 R1 NTSC 720x480 scaled to 854x480

S16:9 is possibly less soft as there in no vertical scaling, however the whole 960x540 panel is not used.

For R2 Discs

16:9 R2 PAL 720x576 scaled to 1024x576 and cropped to 960x540.

Since the displayed resolution matches the source resolution there is no need for a special ''S' mode for PAL stuff.

Clear as mud  ;)
